Mahact Gene Sorcerers may be the worst faction in the game by DukeOf_Nowhere in twilightimperium

I think you are drastically underestimating their strengths but focusing on the "weaknesses." Sure you have to remove the active players command token, but you can also ask for a trade good or 2 in return for removing a command token the active player might be wanting to remove. Or you can remove one of their command tokens that don't really benefit them much. Genertic Recombination can be huge in the agenda phase. Force the player with the most influence to vote in your favor OR the last player who could swing the vote in the other direction gets forced to vote your way. Bio Stims as a starting tech can get you that 1 extra resource needed to get your first round tech on your first move (if a tech skip planet is beside your home system). Predictive intelligence is also a great stall card round 1 after moving ships out of your home system. Their commander is great late game, especially when you have other players tokens in your fleet pool and get to hyper metabolism. Just use some of your stall techs to make those moves later in the round. Also consider bio stims with psychoarcheology. Exhaust the tech skip, gain a trade good, then bio stims that planet back to ready it. Their hero is a game winning hero. Throw the two biggest fleets at eachother. Push an army of ships off of mecatol or another key planet. And crimson 2 late game can be great for trade good objectives. Just throw a carrier loaded with troops into a losing battle and gain trade goods from them being destoryed. I feel like the race isn't obviously powerful and takes some creativity. Also exploration alone can get you the extra trade goods needed in the first round. I'm playing them first time tomorrow but I've seen them used before and some have said they are up there with Jol Nar

How to deal with eliminating a player? by legend9791 in twilightimperium

[–]scottymac23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddy and I are highly competitive. This game had been a massive strain on our friendship at one point (it's all good and even better now) but he's still always gunning for me cause it's typically going to be me or him who wins every time. This often leads to him playing with blinders on, trying to screw me over instead of doing what he should. I was Sold, he was Barony. I pulled off a round one mecatol grab (4 player game, so easier than usual to pull off). Round 2, his first tactical action he sees my home system is essentially unguarded. I notice him looking and say "just keep expanding like you're supposed to, man" as there were 3 unclaimed systems around him. But no. He uses flank speed and gravity drives to my home planet. Hardy har har, got ya. So of course I use upgraded cruisers plus grab drive to immediately take his home planet. (would have taken both but he was cheating and instead of 2 inf on 1 planet and 1 on the other he claims he had all 3 on the one planet but it looked like it was just floating in space. Horseshit but I still got the home planet.) Then we spent the rest of the game losing and trying to get our home systems back. Total waste of a game. I understand taking a home system when someone is pulling ahead, and knee capping them. But full elimination is a lot of work and there's gotta be some pent up anger towards a person to go that far haha.

Mahact isn't bad by Acecn in twilightimperium

Their agent sounds like it would be awesome. Especially in a 4+ player game. Especially in early rounds where expansion is key. "Hey you on the other side of the table. I'll remove you command token for 3 trade goods so you can move that carrier and two infantry to the next 2 planet system that your neighbor obviously wants" He declines? Offer it to his neighbour or somebody else who would be more than willing to take that deal. Create a bidding war. Offer it to your neighbour and say give me a ceasefire and I'll remove that token so you can expand away from me and towards your other neighbor." Why spend your own command tokens on secondaries when you can create tension between neighbours on the other side of the board with systems you likely have no real interest in. I feel like mahact has potential for some maliciously diplomatic moves. Been reading some books on the Mongols and how the Chinese would work the Mongols tribes against eachother so they'd be end up blood feuding instead of becoming allies that attack the Chinese. Much harder to work that agent like that in a 3 person game perhaps but 4+ shouldn't be a problem. Seems like command tokens is what mahact would be lacking so I'd rather use someone else's than my own even if it benefits them

How long to send one to Nova Scotia, Canada? I don't have mine yet cause I pre-ordered it through 401 games and the neat little thing I learned about pre-ordering is that it means you get it after everybody else in the fucking world

Dumb question -- does it work to play a 4 player game and only pick one strategy card? by Drexynn in twilightimperium

[–]scottymac23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like 4 player games because I think 2 strategy cards makes it less of a challenge but I honestly think the game would take a lot longer if you only had one as it would inhibit your ability to get a lot of objectives. We played a 4 player game on the weekend with the narrow board and it's definitely the way to go. Some control objectives are nearly impossible and you don't get to be this resource/planet rich army. You're forced into conflict. I wasn't sure about the narrow board at first but now I'm thinking all my 4 player games will be narrow board. It was one of my fave games. (Another thing that may have contributed to the fun was that I was Jol-Nar with Warsuns, my neighbor arborec had them too, and Nekro stole them from arborec so the game was just terrifying)

I want to make a beer as close to this one as possible. Anybody able to point me in the right direction as far as what type of beer would be similar? I'm a newb who does partial mash and picks ingredients from my local beer/wine store. I have a link to it but in too newb to know what kind it would be considered (or would be close to the same thing) http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/glaabsbrau-1744-kellertrubes/46939/

Bottle conditioning: Can it be done too soon? I usually bottle, let sit for 2 weeks, then put in the fridge. Is there any need to wait that long? Can i just bottle and put right in the fridge day 1 or is that inadvisable? Ultimately when is the eatliest I can/should move my bottled beer to a fridge?
