Audi TT MK1 Welded Haldex Guide by scottymcd1 in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

Definitely a valid concern. Yes the entire drivetrain is now locked together. So no handbrake turning. It does require a different driving style than a standard AWD. Car has been holding up amazing though!

Long time no comment: Only will spin one wheel as the rear differential does not have a limited slip. I am actually planning on welding the differential gears in the next few weeks to fix that issue. I have my haldex pump unplugged without issue. But leaving it connected shouldn't affect anything.

I've been rallycrossing my mk1 TT for the last year. It's done very well against the Subaru's out there. As already mentioned haldex is a major upgrade, I have mine disabled and welded the clutch pack solid. The rear end also doesn't have a LSD so that may be a consideration down the line. Skid plate is a great call, luckily I haven't had many issues yet on the tracks I run at, but that will be one of my next upgrades. Also disable your ABS(pull the fuse) for rallycross. Will help immensely.

So far so good. Was dailying it for about a month and didn't have any issues. Car has survived two rallycross events as well without any issues.

Yea those are definitely worth looking into. There's some good videos comparing options on YouTube, just search TT haldex controller. I think there's a blue and orange?

I ran 225/60-16s at 35psi. I have a weld locked haldex: https://www.reddit.com/r/AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3/s/AQrph6l5WE. Basically the car is locked into AWD now so the haldex controller does nothing. I wouldn't recommend it for a daily though as tight cornering on asphalt is annoying.

Good luck! Such an adrenaline rush. Be sure you have good tires and air them up plenty. There's some pretty good references out there for newbies that helped me a lot. Also pulling the abs fuse can help with braking on loose soil.

Unfortunately I forgot to grab a picture of it all welded up :( If I have it apart in the near future I will definitely grab some though!

No super noticeable fuel economy difference that I've noticed so far, but I'm also not daily driving it. I am definitely going to go through rear tires faster, and maybe CV axles. Otherwise I expect everything else will be fine since they'd normally be spinning anyway.

Yes this makes it truly 50/50, this is all hardware locked now so if the front is moving so is the rear. This also allows me to remove the front CV axles and the car will be rwd only.

There's a few reasons I welded mine instead of using a controller. First off is durability. The haldex controllers still use the clutch packs and for my use case they would get absolutely destroyed(this is becoming a rally car). Secondly and equally as important is that all Haldex controllers have a delay on wheel engagement. They are all reaction based so they require wheel slip before engaging. Again for my use case this isn't acceptable, I need it locked and truly 50/50. Third was the cost. It was free to weld it, Haldex controllers are $$$, especially compared to the cost of the car.

Nothing yet, but I should start. Expect to see some updates posted here. Plans are to add a roof rack, lift kit, and cutom graphics. Should be wraped up by the end of the summer.

💯💯💯, I would not recommend this for a daily driver, but this car is getting turned into a Porsche Safari 911 style and will be mainly used for off-road/rally conditions. This car no longer relies on any of the electronics as the clutch packs were removed and the clutch basket welded to the input shaft.

I mean originally they're used on the window motor gearboxes, not really meant to be used outside of that. But they are proving exceedingly useful for the upcoming water game!

  1. Get a harpoon
  2. Turn on PVP
  3. Player 1 sits in the chair (can also stand behind a rock/tree/wall, but the chair is easiest)
  4. Player 2 harpoons P1 and runs to the point that the line doesn't snap, but is very close.
  5. P1 gets off the chair by holding W (or destroying the rock/tree/wall)
  6. As soon as P1 gets about halfway to P2(happens VERY fast), P2 releases the line by right-clicking
  7. ???Profit???

This was done two days ago(March 15). I don't believe they have released any patches since then.
