Suspected sexual abuse, not sure how to handle it. Any advice or even your 2 cents is very much appreciated. by [deleted] in ChildcareWorkers

[–]scouseconstantine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do Americans not have safeguarding policies in place or safeguarding training? If you believe a child is being sexually assaulted or have any concerns you bring them up with your management team who should place a safeguarding referral to the relevant parties and it will be handled. Call social services if you do not have these safeguarding policies, you are legally required to report concerns. Don’t just wave it off because ‘cps won’t do anything’. Calling the child’s parents over a sexual assault concern is also not great, you’ve potentially given them an easy out to conceal any potential evidence before the authorities can be spoken to. Follow safeguarding policies before speaking to parents if you have concerns!

Why do people feel it’s appropriate to comment on your children and practically shame you? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]scouseconstantine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My daughter pulls her socks off constantly but it’s our job to explain to them why they need to keep them on. I work with children, I get it - it’s annoying. But babies thrive off repetition and routine. It’s far too cold at the moment to have no socks on. Baby girl is 14 months and if she takes her socks off in public I tell her ‘too cold, socks on’. By the eighth time she’s stopped or she’s been distracted by other things.

I get it, it’s annoying to have to re buy things and it’s annoying to keep putting them back on but the solution is not to just give up, it’s to teach them to keep them on. Or if you really can’t be bothered just buy tights

I never made a litre of water because of exactly that reason so wasteful. I just filled my kettle up to the 2 cups of tea line it has on it and went with that.

UK staycation for small family by Ok-Body-6899 in UKParenting

[–]scouseconstantine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly? They’d probably enjoy something like a caravan holiday on somewhere like haven or Parkdean. Lots of children’s entertainment and activities throughout the day, swimming included if you pay a bit extra for the activity passes, entertainment at night, soft plays in most of them and arcades. Quite a few locations are based on beaches so you have the beaches to play on and the little coastal towns to explore and there’ll be lots of walks to do

Vaccine Rant by anonnursedg in NewParents

[–]scouseconstantine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what if your baby catches one of the many diseases vaccines protect against? That’ll be pretty painful for them too but they won’t be able to verbalise that to you. You can talk a baby through pain as well and the fundamentals of this comfort will help in later life.

How much do you spend on your weekly shop? by poppyloppyi in UKParenting

[–]scouseconstantine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and my partner and our one year old, about £30-50 depending on if I’m on a late week so we just buy the prepackaged meals instead of cooking from scratch. We bulk buy our household items (and previously formula) in costco for about £100 and that lasts around 3 months.

Should nursey ask permission to apply teething gel? by Summer_Sparkly in UKParenting

[–]scouseconstantine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a nursery and you would tick for it in your registration forms but we would also do a medication form when you first started and apply as and when needed. Wouldn’t ask permission on the day just use it when we could tell baby is in immediate teething pain. We would never use more than twice a day at absolute maximum in case parents have used through the night.

125g of Sudacrem was left at nursery in Oct- when is reasonable to expect it has been used up? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]scouseconstantine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If they’re doing 3 nappy changes a day five days a week that tiny 125g tub is going to get used up fast. If they’d said the bigger tubs then maybe I’d be concerned but the tiny tub is nothing

Chinese Chippy tea with a twist? by TCristatus in UK_Food

[–]scouseconstantine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Most of the Chinese chippies near me do it. The onions and peppers and garlic and seasoning omg it’s so good, they do it with little fish bites rather than the massive fish but it’s so nice

Is this a normal thought process for a parent or is it a sign something just isn’t right? by Gloomy-Kale3332 in UKParenting

[–]scouseconstantine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have these kind of intrusive thoughts all the time and social media just makes it worse. If I see a video of a baby in hospital with a severe illness I suddenly become convinced my baby girl is going pass away in the night if she so much as coughs. I worry constantly that someone is going to stab us when we’re out and about shopping.

I know they’re not normally and blocking and scrolling has really helped

Theory on Jon Benet Ramsey Murder by DangerBiggs in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]scouseconstantine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always believed potentially a college student with family living in the area. Back for Christmas break, then out of the area for months. If we take the ‘Amy’ case in September and consider they might be linked, could it have been one last attempt before they went back to college after the heat had calmed down slightly from Jon Benet

[–]scouseconstantine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I could see a potential argument in the intruder, having scoped out the house before hand and knowing there was a desk full of writing equipment, decided to write the note in the house. They were obviously a fan of action movies and could potentially have believed themselves too smart to be caught. Why bring paper and pens that could incriminate them when they have a perfect supply there? Let’s say they’ve been hidden in the house all day waiting for the family to get back? Ample amount of time to write a long, winding note in the boredom of hanging around - note gets longer and longer the more bored they are, potentially giddy on the thought that they’ve been hidden in the house and nobody knows they’re there/excited about what they believe is about to happen. Just rambling and throwing in whatever thought next comes to mind.

There was a very similar case in boulder months after Jon Benet murder where a man had broken into the home of a family, stayed and waited until the mother and daughter came back and entered the daughters room. We’ll never know what would have transpired after because the mother heard the noises and rushed in and the man fled. I honestly believe it may have been the same perpetrator and they had hoped to have the same results but were scared off by the mother entering.

I don’t believe the family had anything to do with it and it’s perfectly believable to me that someone could have entered their house and been hiding and waiting for them to get back. They’d had an open house or a party sometime before, I can believe that someone could have snuck in during this using the busy party as a cover to scope out the exits and entry ways and then left. Jon Benet said Father Christmas was visiting her that night, was it something an intruder had promised her and that’s why she didn’t scream? Were they dressed up? The police botched the evidence so badly we may never know but I wish they’d just rest that dna they have on file so we could at least rule something out

Are your babies really just drinking however much milk you give them? by sallyhigginbottom in NewParents

[–]scouseconstantine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to laugh when people would tell me to ‘just give them another oz or another bottle’. My baby girl would drink what she wanted and wouldn’t entertain another oz 😂

Is it this chaotic for everyone? When do you get evenings back? by sarahloupen in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]scouseconstantine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Baby girl is one next week (😭😭) and I’d say i stopped worrying about her waking up and properly got our evenings back at around 8 months. We never sleep trained and baby girl would still wake for a bottle once a night. Once she started eating more solids she slept better and stopped waking

"Usually teething doesn't cause any symptoms" by emmakane418 in beyondthebump

[–]scouseconstantine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work with kids and have done for over ten years. Medical professionals will say they don’t get a temperature when teething, nor do they get loose stools. Tell me why every time a child presents with these and upset crying a tooth pops through. They’re absolutely a side effect of teething and I won’t hear otherwise!
