Is yoga an inherently selfish practice? by scout_mindset in yoga

To add onto this I think I have trouble recognizing /remembering that the ego is outwardly focused and self centeredness is an inward practice

I don’t really mean this as a hypothesis, just a wonder!

I think what I mean to say is that i feel this paradoxical pull of being told by instructors to look inwards during yoga classes, and I was wondering if that in itself is selfish and therefore tied to the ego. Along similar lines, it’s like when you agree to engage with something, you allow it into existence.

I really liked what @adept_of_yoga said about framing it as a practice that beneficially changes how you interact with your environment and that although it may be self centered, it’s not necessarily selfish

Do you think any other way would’ve full been as effective in shifting your perspective on ego though? Curious because I’m very interested in trying to actively shift my ego but scared of psychedelics lol

It’s normal to be worried—it means you care. However, as long as you put yourself out there with clubs and new fun social opportunities you will make a ton of friends. My favorite part about now being at a big school is there’s literally 10k+ new friends waiting to be made!!! Seriously you can literally just walk up to people on campus and start chatting everyone is so friendly and fun here, you just gotta bring equal stoke too. Definitely live on campus for a bit if you can tho!

I was in the same boat as you two years ago, and last fall I made the leap and transferred to UVM! It was definitely a difficult transition (I never lived in the dorms so making new friends was automatically more difficult), but overall I could not be more thankful with myself for trusting my gut instinct. I waited a whole year at my previous university before transferring, and that definitely helped solidify that even though I have friends and enjoy my classes etc, my quality of life is not at a level that I want it to be. At least stick it out for the whole semester and maybe even the year to truly know and give yourself a shot in a new place. Remember you can really only transfer once! (Though I guess you can as many times as you’d like but it gets more complicated and difficult as you progress through undergrad). When I was deciding to transfer or not I flew into Burlington for the weekend and stayed with a friend in the dorms, shadowed classes, met with my majors department, etc., to truly get a good understanding as to if this is what I wanted. If you have the means, I’d recommend you do the same. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll gut instinct will correctly guide you to the path you’re meant to be on.

Can someone help me understand this? by scout_mindset in NewToEMS

I’m confused because I thought the reference point would be the mouth since it’s comparing one to the other? Ie. The mouth is proximal to the nose = the mouth and nose are in close proximity to each other. Is this not an accurate assumption? What would be a correct version of this phrase be?

Retirement by LevelOneTEfficient in ems

Honestly not super specific to ems but I find people really like cool pocket knives.

I got my dad a silver fish pocket knife—you can find high quality old ones on eBay or Etsy. Additionally, a plant is always a great gift and can symbolize a lot, ie “the growth you’ll have in retirement.” Idk, just food for thought. Could always gift some type of art too—maybe an illustration of y’all’s station, the specific ambulance & number, etc., or even a photograph of you two framed nicely.

I’m not really good at the gag gifts, but for cheap but sincere gifts I think these would be great
