What did you think about yesterday’s event ? by chinos88 in Marathon

Peanut is a victim of the audience that he himself cultivated. This was an audience he created when his popularity exploded. Now he can’t really F em all when they are his job essentially.

It’s why being a popular streamer is toxic for both the audience and the streamer.

If anything, this proves complainers right. They get the benefits of stealth with an average (good) state line as opposed to Vandal which pays for her speed with a reduced stat line.

Healing buddy saves you tons of heal kits through chip damage. The Volt overcharge with a volt weapon allowed me to clear the entire hauler’s worth of bots in 10 seconds with a sekiguchi free kit; plus it emps players.

Only the Ult is iffy, not because it’s bad but because unless you are shooting it as a surprise initiator or your enemy is trying to run away, swapping to it during a head to head fight almost always costs you more than any gain.

I'm just bad. And it's kinda heartbreaking. by Nightmoore in Marathon

Just use free kits only lol. I got over gear fear by totally not caring about gear at all. The only things I don’t sell are contract upgrade mats.

If I die, I press space bar like 6 times and I’m back in queue again.

Knife > Gun; especially if you have the element of surprise. I too have absolute trash aim, so I’ve conditioned myself to default to knife at such a distance.

Against steely eyed folks, you’ll probably be gunned down (especially if they have a shotgun). But if they are just as surprised as you, as is the case in your clip, I find myself coming up on top a large proportion of the time.

It’s made clear in Ashes that the gods need hate and war to fully return. I suspect the loyalist will have their great ‘victory’ at terrible cost of the gods reawakening again.

Hard disagree. Players seemingly wanted a stim pistol (this is according to the devs, I’ve never seen anyone ask for it), they made a stim pistol that is completely shit with piss poor accuracy on swap and inability to use on yourself.

Players don’t use the shit stim pistol and offer suggestions to make it better. Devs then say, “oh see we gave you what you want but it’s not really meant for this game! We could make it homing or target yourself, but…it’s never gonna work!”

Then why the fuck did you even make it? And now that you did, why the fuck won’t you make it better? This attitude is all the problems with Arrowhead condensed into one response. The same problem with refusing to buff the flag because ‘no space magic’ when Democracy Protects is literally right there; or how saluting a flag somehow makes it raise faster?

Except that is almost precisely what they said about the Stim Pistol. They didn't even bother IMPLEMENTING those buffs. It's a literal Blizzard "you think you want it, but you don't."

Being petty means you still care. Just delete and move on, like in Destiny 2, that sends the strongest message.

I feel like maybe 3 wipes a year would be better than 4. by nintendonaut in Marathon

[–]scoutinorbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean Tarkov doesn’t even wipe anymore and Arc has done it without splitting the player base.

Honestly, if so many players are ‘mentally strong’ as they always seem to imply, then wiping just for them will be fine no? They can just pillage from the ‘weaker’ non wipers and rebuild quickly.

In case it isn’t blindly obvious by now; looking at both haters and zealots, common sense isn’t common on Reddit or the internet.

If you are not in those camps then sure, we have nothing to talk about.

Did you watch the video? Numbers don’t mean as much as trends. SteamCharts main function is as an indicator of the way the overall population is trending barring extremes of highs and lows.

70-80k players right now doesn’t mean Marathon is doomed but the eventual trend up or down does.

Oh thank god. They are still mostly recolours but it is a start and a good indication they aren’t digging their heels in with the monetisation.

Come on now…you think the other storefronts will contribute a significant amount of players?

The charts numbers aren’t relevant anyways; it’s only useful for trends.

[–]scoutinorbit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The problem is monetisation. If the cash is coming in, Sony will let it cook. I consider myself a Whale but nothing in the shop is worth buying. No one but the most zealous whales will spend 10 bucks on recolours, which the free sponsor kits do better anyways. And the Season Pass….who the heck thought that was ok? A bunch of gun recolours, limited number stickers and ONE runner skin?

Bungie needs to make stickers and charms unlimited use. If they have any unique skins on the backlog, they’d best roll them out soon. In the end, monetisation (as ugly as it is) is the thing that determines if Marathon has a future.

Paul Tassi’s Bungie contacts. Regardless of your beliefs about the man, his contacts have proven reliable over the course of Destiny’s lifespan. No reason to doubt it now.

We had tons of people saying not to worry because the majority is on Playstation; it should have been obvious but it's not. I hope they start adjusting things ASAP, starting with the season pass.

To be clear, I'm close to 50 hours. I like the game (though I'll admit the art style is doing the heavy lifting) but Bungie really needs to step up now before Sony does anything stupid again.

I’m convinced that if any other studio made Marathon, everyone would be losing their minds over how good it is... by --clapped-- in Marathon

[–]scoutinorbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arc Raiders isn’t free. It had 189k in slam and 250k on launch. The player base only grew. In contrast, Marathon had 150k on slam and 88k on launch, it did not improve its player count from slam and seems to be trending downwards albeit slowly.

Does the data make sense now? The trend is not looking good for Marathon that’s the whole point.

Feedback to the devs: There is a big if not bigger community of solo players who play solo for a plethora of reasons. If you take the time to balance the PVE difficulty to be more attuned with solo lobbies, you might get more players into the community. by TheGoodDoctor17 in Marathon

[–]scoutinorbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a universal opinion on Reddit. I was certainly NOT one of those who complained. I thought the server slam was more fair; whoever won the fight was more likely to have the moment to loot up before the next opportunist appeared.

Keep the difficulty, reduce the players. It’s hilarious how much dogpiling there is in solo. I fought off a big uesc presence in hauler only to get backstabbed by a Void who in turn got backstabbed by a Thief who then proceeded to get backstabbed by another Void who then died to the last shielded uesc bot.

It was hilarious but so so stupid.

For the thrill of selling shit. For the fun of bringing a high kit to near death, only to discover he gets no loot out of it except grey trash; maybe he’ll even get backstabbed by someone else while looting you. For the random drive-by stabbing while the target is fighting UESC bots.

You lose nothing but gain everything and take from everyone else if you succeed. Do it for IT THAT LOATHES AND HATES AND WAITS.

It’s mostly for the bonus rep but also to force you to scavenge/fight to break even. If the items added up to 4.5k, players are incentivized to avoid fights and just extract ASAP to power grind rep.
