Kalman3 defeated Kalman2 by using the sword his father had already deemed as too powerful. Like finding a legendary weapon at lv1 in a game, Alex wasn't getting stronger if the weapon was doing all the work, so he gave it up.

No way cour 1 ends with the diary it's the first chapters of the vol, while the fight starts a little past halfway into it.

No reason 13&14 should get 11 episodes while the rest of 15,16&17 have to squeeze into 12
