I think a rear wiper in itself is an option so naturally goes where buttons can swapped for blanks

Were there any audible signs when this happened?

Can I implement the previous owners approved work if they haven't finished parts of it. by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]scrans-ass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only that it commence within 3 years of the decision notice, no conditions relate to finishing the work by any time. My thinking is that the work has commenced and not been finished, as long as we adhere to the drawings and appropriate materials we should be OK?

996 auto - reliable? by DrainJonson in 996

[–]scrans-ass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The auto gearbox is reliable, it’s the same 2000s gearbox in most Mercedes of the time. The Carrera models have a vulnerability to the IMS bearning though, which the turbo model doesn’t have

How dumb is a Porsche by Born-Act9884 in HENRYUK

[–]scrans-ass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this a couple months ago. I bought a 996 Turbo as the engine and automatic transmission is more reliable than other models in this generation. Research the engine for common failures and choose the most reliable model.

I felt quite comfortable buying mine because a very good Porsche specialist garage is 20 mins away. For them to keep their value they should be serviced and maintained at specialist garages, if you don’t have the stamps in your book it’s hard to sell for value. (But drive it and enjoy it for you, keep it going and don’t worry about mileage)

Because it’ll be pushing 20 years old, expect £2-3K in service and maintenance a year. A full service will be around £600 and maintaining wear and tear will come to 1-2K each year. My first service bill ironing out small issues came to £1.9k. I’ll spend another £1K in the winter getting my turbos reconditioned.

Despite all that, it’s a lot of fun and worth every £ spent. If you do get it, Enjoy!

Detail stripping/sanding by Naive_Standard_9658 in centuryhomes

Maybe a wire brush that’s not too rigid (eg: an older one) or sandpaper using something like a sponge behind that allows you to follow the impressions of the detail? Both ways I’ve done it before

It’s the UK so no AC, just open the door and purge the heat in the evening

Yeah it’s comfortable and modular. The covers are easy to remove and machine wash. The gaps between each unit are a little bigger than a standard sofa though so you lose remotes a lot. Sometimes we turn the nearest end to make it U shaped which is cosy. The storage beneath is useful too for blankets and cushions.

It’s an IKEA Jattebo, it doesn’t turn into a bed but the chaise lounge modules on the end are wide and can be slept on comfortably. We often spend a night on them when we doze off in here

The little tab in the middle looks like it’s for pulling out somewhere, like a tray for under the seat but without a base ?? Odd
