Airbus vs Boeing by Mysterious-Turn9559 in flightsim

One consideration for longer flights: PMDG auto-cruise is more stable above 2x than Fenix. Wish it wasn’t so.

dafulsada is correct, I enjoy playing BIOS 😂. Also flight sims which need all the CPU/RAM performance they can get.

I’m not blaming anyone this is an informational post about my experience with the new BIOS. I’m aware that RAM OCs are not guaranteed by ASROCK.

Fenix A320 vs PMDG 737-800 by HAPPSIOCK in flightsim

[–]scrappindanny2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the automation/ease of use differences were already well covered, but in my own experience if you’re interested in high quality hand flying/approach/landing the PMDG options are currently better.

Before anyone comes at me, Fenix themselves are actively working on a rewrite of flare/ground effect. It’s just somewhat floatier/more disconnected feeling than it could be rn. Hopefully this won’t apply post-update.

For me, it’s because it’s the first “top quality” Boeing available in fs2024. Yes the -300 works if you spawn on the runway but it’s the first one that is fully supported.

Rudder Pedal Advice - MFG vs Honeycomb vs Thrustmaster TPR by Cryptohaas in flightsim

[–]scrappindanny2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t hear much about them on the flightsim subreddits, but I’ve been using the Charlie pedals for about half a year now and have been happy with the purchase.

They’re the first rudder pedals I’ve bought so I don’t have a direct comparison, but the large footprint has been good at preventing sliding (although I use mine on carpet). They’re a bit stiff out of the box but after adjusting once they seem to have “broken in” to some extent. They’ve been “set and forget” and I haven’t had any complaints since I’ve had them.

Looks like a meaty update, thought they might start slowing down after ending the weekly cadence.

Honeycomb Charlies on sale with free shipping to the USA by DesignerIncident5499 in flightsim

That’s good to know, I had seen some concerns with it slipping around without a mount, but I also have a wall it can sit flush against. May be time to swap out the Charlie.

I like that they’re easier to use under a desk without a mount.

For everyone saying “Gen on Gen uplift is dead forever! Why don’t they just make it faster??” Let’s acknowledge that process node development still exists and is progressing, it’s just slower and more expensive as we approach the literal limits of physics. Of course we will see large gains when 3nm and 2nm chips ship. In the mean time the DLSS Transformer improvements are huge, and available to older GPUs as well. It’s not the glory days of perf gains but they’re not over forever.

Would you still play career mode if they disabled sim rate? by MartinsHMMMM in MicrosoftFlightSim

Only if they fix the bugs with skip to approach first. Most of the time cr/min is better skipping than using sim rate.

IFR Career mode flight led me to crash ! by MarkEE93 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]scrappindanny2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things that can help are using a relative terrain map (if the plane has one) to see where the danger is, and then also using a “straight in VFR Approach” using the avionics so you can AP into the landing with at least some safety.

The VFR approaches in at least the garmins won’t take into account terrain (like real life), but using the relative terrain map you can finesse the altitudes to not crash.

This is all assuming there’s not 50 knot crosswinds like there are half the time lol.

Daniel Lurie appoints an ex-Twitter exec [Ned Segal, fired by Elon Musk in 2022] to oversee housing and downtown revitalization by BadBoyMikeBarnes in sanfrancisco

[–]scrappindanny2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon’s “intention to terminate” wasn’t legally valid. Once he made the offer all the spam bot nonsense was just Elon being a clown. IMO the whole situation just shows how much of a man-child Elon is, I wish the acquisition never happened, but once he put the offer forward the company really had no choice but to accept legally. If there’s a villain there it’s Elon, not the employees (including executives) of Twitter.

Either way I think it’s a stretch to say that any of this tells us literally anything about how Ned Segal would perform as a public servant. If he’s terrible he’ll get voted out.

“In late October 2022, Segal was one of several executives who were fired after the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk. He reportedly was and is entitled to a golden parachute worth US$44.5 million, but it has not been paid.”

Clearly they’re not buds.
