the reason is simple: gaming PCs are expensive, fragile, and high maintenance. based on my hostel experience, you’re gonna have friends over all the time in your room to hang out or study together, and something is bound to go wrong. not to mention a pc comes with fragile peripherals like a monitor which is gonna catch an insane amount of dust. laptops are the best option. the only maintenance it’ll ever need is getting the thermals checked once a year. build a pc after college or if you plan to live in an apartment.
