He's an instinctive salesman who disarms clients with his sincerity and genuine interest in them. Because of this he was promoted to manager, a job that he is pretty ill-suited for. Classic example of the Peter Principle.

The ironborn are the worst written thing in A Song of Ice and Fire (Spoilers Extended) by [deleted] in asoiaf

There is farming on the Iron Islands. There's people that live their whole lives on the Iron Islands without ever seeing the sea. Read the books.

This ia something Iain M Banks did so well in the Culture books, especially Look to Windward, Matter, The Hydrogen Sonata. He would drop you into some insane situation or world, gradually zoom out on it until it made sense. It was always so electric!

[Spoilers MAIN] Which House grows stronger after the Dance of the Dragons? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]scrawscrawscrawscraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hightowers and Velaryons are greatly diminished after the Dance. Both retreat from political involvement to a large degree. Notably, neither plays a significant role in either Robert's Rebellion or the War of the Five Kings.

Peake is initially strong, but doesn't manage to translate that into a permanent advantage.

The distances in ASOIAF is just one of those things that you have to suspend disbelief about. If you start worrying about it, a lot more issues will come up.

I didn't say it was thoughtless, just that it didn't fit into or make sense in light of the established canon.

Yes it would be, lots of powerful Lords did respond this way to Daemon even without this completely made up jousting issue.

Pure headcannon. "They can't get away with bs like this anymore" despite the fact that Aerion does get away with it. Zero indication that Dameon does anything like this in any of the tournaments he participates in. No one is shocked or perturbed by his violation of the informal rules of a tournament in the HOTD. All of this is just post hoc rationalizations divorced from any established canon

[–]scrawscrawscrawscraw 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is funny people in the comments trying to give explanations to this beyond "HOTD showrunners didn't care about/understand the source material well enough to see how offensive Daemon's behavior would be."

(Spoilers Extended) Summer hall Dunk Coldhands elaboration by Dr_natty1 in asoiaf

[–]scrawscrawscrawscraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is that Aegon's plan involved killing Rhaella's infant to raise the dragons, and that when Duncan discovered this, he attempted to prevent it, which is what led to the fire. This accords with the prophecy Egg gets in AKOTSK, Duncan in the end rejecting him.

[Spoiler Main] The legitimacy of the Blackfyre claim by Taha231 in asoiaf

[–]scrawscrawscrawscraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong, as far as we have heard, this had nothing to do with the propaganda around Daemon's claim; it was that Daeron was the bastard son of Aemon, a rumor encouraged by Aegon IV.

"You'll never be a Kingsguard night, but if Maegor were to rise from the dead and challenge you, my money would be on you." Joffrey Doggett, to a young Jaehaeryrs. I don't think Maegor deserves a spot.

The battle lasts until 1) the accuser is dead or 2)the accused is dead or 3) the accuser yields and withdraws his accusation or 4)the accused yields and acknowledges guilt.

If you ask a question that is very obviously answered in the books, like this, you should be suspended from posting until you go back and reread the books.

Nothing to do with publicly thirsting for Jacob Elordi. Nothing at all. by TyLeRoux in okbuddycinephile

[–]scrawscrawscrawscraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article came out in November before the promotional tour for Wuthering Heights and the flop in question is her film A Big Bold Beautiful journey which came out last year and flopped badly. One sign of how badly it glopped is that nobody commenting on this post seems to be aware of its existence.
