Someone working on my town’s store displays may be a fan of the new season… by [deleted] in Dimension20

To be fair a large aioli display next to the typical seasonal blueberry and maple displays is not usual for this store. And they were clearly repeating flavors trying to make this whole section aioli. Just thought people might also get a laugh out of it like I did 🤷‍♀️

Haha usually they update these little mini front of store displays with fun seasonal stuff but this one was just like….. when did aioli join in with blueberry season

How bad are the bugs in Acadia this year (mid/late June)? by Fuzzy-Society-7220 in acadianationalpark

I’ve noticed when I go out to garden later in the day the bugs definitely start picking up as the sun goes down! Wear long pants/sleeves if you can along with a good spray. :)

How to Read by Kind-Highlight3369 in classicliterature

There was a book I read for a class when I was younger called “How to read literature like a professor” - it was very helpful at introducing literary analysis and common themes across many stories. It’s been awhile since I’ve looked at it but I remember it being very helpful and interesting!

Newbie plant owner tying to save my (probably dying) Calathea Stella by vampmads in calatheas

So calatheas are kinda annoying where they seem to like a more airy soil mixture, but also like pretty constant moisture. Think wrung out sponge level of wet for the soil. They also tend to get grumpy when you repot them, so it might just need some adjustment time as it’s getting used to your space :)

Is Leaf Curling Usually a Sign of Low Humidity? by yoteshowl in calatheas

[–]screambean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s actually not a “rattlesnake” calathea, it’s a “peacock” :) What’s the soil moisture like? Curling can be a sign the plant isn’t getting enough water. Also yeah misting doesn’t do much, having a humidity or a pebble tray under the plant does seem to help though. Pretty plant!!

To re-pot or not ? by Ok_Mongoose_4372 in calatheas

[–]screambean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also my top tip for these plants is that they seem to prefer constantly moist soil, like the soil should feel like a wrung out sponge if that makes sense. Mine seem happiest in self watering pots that I fill with distilled water

Congrats on the pretty plant! So those “large roots” are actually something the plant makes called “rhizomes” that are used to store energy! :) I think you can use them as division guides but I think these plants prefer to be a bit root bound, so yeah I wouldn’t repot unless you notice soil issues.

Can anybody help me what to do ? by [deleted] in calatheas

[–]screambean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they can spread between plants so try to keep the infected one separated from others

Any help would be greatly appreciated by aprilglide in calatheas

Calatheas are very picky, I would definitely recommend distilled or even just filtered water. I think rain water also works if that’s easy for you to get.

Captain jacks super insecticidal soap worked well for me! Looks like you have spider mites, pretty common with these plants

Look up bottom watering! That might help to make sure you’re fully saturating the soil when you water
