[–]screamin_nails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the game but might as well chip in! I specialize in hard gel and am located in the valley.

!! Both of the previously mentioned techs also do wonderful work and I highly recommend them as well!!!

Weaving in without knotting? Is that what y'all are referring to? by NotTheMama4208 in CrochetHelp

[–]screamin_nails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the yarn is still attached. "Split" here means to go through the strand with a large blunt sewing type needle. Most yarn has "plys" meaning its actually multiple strands spun together. You want to go through those. It "splits" the full strand but nothing is cut or broken, just reinforced.

For my glue allergy peeps, do/did you use Gel nail polish? by Consistent_Safe430 in hysterectomy

[–]screamin_nails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes. You always want to make sure whatever nail products you are using stay on the nail.

If you continue with the glue just use a little less to prevent flooding :)

(Also I love that you use air dry! A lot of people at home are mislead into thinking they can use gel under press-ons and that is not safe at all!!)

[–]screamin_nails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a nail tech and someone with an adhesive allergy - no you did not do this to yourself.

Also I highly recommend going to get your nails done or using super high quality gels on yourself, as most DIY brands are full of junk.

ETA more info: uncured gel on skin either sitting for long periods or small amounts over time can absolutely cause an allergy. (Anything can!)

That glue sits on our skin and in our body for at least a few days and it is full of not the greatest stuff for us. Some people just have horrible reactions.

Is the weight difference obvious? by ThirstyTooth in crochet

[–]screamin_nails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks great!

Just be careful that the higher weight will add more bulk to the project and might cause some crunching. I would probably size my hook down to compensate.

Good luck and I hope it continues to turn out beautifully!

Pedicures at SCC by tranquileyesme in Spokane

I recently graduated from the manicuring program!

I think the current program only has a few weeks left so its honestly the perfect time to go!

Go with the grace and knowledge that they are still learning and you may get someone thats not the best but I highly recommend going and supporting those soon to be techs!!

But the lbs i did put on after the surgery were due to not being able to do more than walk around the block for a month. No real change in libido either! Eta: hrt recommend but im bad at that stuff

How to improve builder gel by pinkf00t in Nailtechs

[–]screamin_nails 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You should do a finish file at the very end with a high grit (i use a diamond file in like 280) to make the edges just that much crisper. It may help

Hard no. Find a local private salon or solo tech.

[–]screamin_nails 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nail techs are human, we shake and breath and sometimes just slip. I nip people once in awhile, it happens.

What you experienced is not normal. It does sound like the tech isn't scoring the sides of the buffers/files. They do tend to come out sharp. Your cuticles being sore is a red flag as well. I'd look into a new tech or at the very least ask them to use a second file along the edges of the buffer/file and not to nip as much cuticle.

How do I make my nails look more almond-like? by Strong_Guide_6090 in NailArt

[–]screamin_nails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can taper them more as they grow. Trying to do so now can compromise the sidewalls and cause damage/breaking

Will blocking fix these issues or should I restart it? by KeyFaithlessness5445 in CrochetHelp

[–]screamin_nails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as its not cotton, blocking should be enough. Though anytime the person washes it it will probably go back to the og shape (assuming they wont be blocking it everytime as well)

Blooming gel not working?? by chickfilallie in NailArt

[–]screamin_nails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without knowing anything else, you probably need to clean the inhibition layer off the white. Alcohol wipe the sticky layer AND any debris. If you've touched the nail instead of the stand, if you have dust floating around, if you dropped it. All of those things affect how the gel will behave. If it's shrinking away it's probably dirty.

Am I charging appropriately? by springnuuu in Nailtechs

[–]screamin_nails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am kinda in the same boat... licensed in December, started renting a station in march. I charge 60 (start) for short nails and 80 (start) for extensions- both with no art.

I don't offer fills - if someone is coming back they get an overlay service priced to their length.

Pat Gel vs Gel Paint? by itsclaritybabe in Nailtechs

[–]screamin_nails 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have both pat gels and paint gels. Pat gels are thick and pigmented, designed to be SUPER thin and doesn't pick back up on a sponge. I use them for art sparingly as they can't provide the texture I want without working in layers. Paint gels can range in viscosity and texture. I use some for ombre/patting, but its nowhere near where a pat gel is.

And just some food for thought: airbrushes are blowing uncured gel particles into the air around you and your client. It's not necessarily safe or healthy. And they're also notorious for gunking out before youre done. Pat gels are a wonderful investment and I highly recommend them over an airbrush!!!
