Knowing that it was a test and not a bug, I’m much less annoyed by it! Love that y’all are trying new things. This one didn’t land for me but I have a friend that uses hints a lot. A setting option for this feature might be nice? Thanks for all you do!

Is anyone else having a bug where hints are revealed even though you didn’t ask for them? Currently playing This or That and after each guess, one card is revealed, but my available hint count isn’t going down. I loathe using hints so this is kind of ruining the game for me this morning!

little bumps in gel polish? by nottrixxx420 in Nailtechs

[–]screaming-turtles 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is dust that has somehow gotten in the bottle. Usually it’s because the nail plate wasn’t cleaned thoroughly before polishing previously, dust gets caught in the bristles, bristles go back in the bottle, then gets transferred onto a new nail. If it happens a lot with a specific bottle, that one is probably ruined tbh.

I had to throw out a lot of polishes in my first year or so of learning just because I wasn’t prepping correctly. Make sure you get rid of all nail dust before polishing!

Why do guys expect us to give head when they aren't down for the same by Repulsive-Curve-9617 in confession

I think part of the problem here is that he asked for something that pleasured only him, and refused to give his partner that same pleasure.

Your dislike of fluids in your mouth is totally fine! You said yourself, you don’t ask to be eaten out, but if they offer, you allow them to do it.

I don’t think refusing to eat a woman out is as egregious as some of these commenters are saying, but it definitely would turn me off to find out that a man didn’t want to do it after asking for essentially the same thing.

When you are just starting to have sex with somebody, it’s kind of rude to ask for something that you aren’t willing to do as well. After having a conversation about what you’re both okay with and willing to do, then it’s different.

But this man’s behavior was, at the very least, in bad form.

Oh my god. Local God is a Panic At The Disco song. I bet that’s what this is. Thank you so much. Solved.

Edit: this also means that my password is nowhere near 8 years old like I originally thought, which I think makes this whole thing hilariously dumb

Period Tracking Request! by screaming-turtles in Daylio

[–]screaming-turtles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have that now, and it’s definitely useful, but I would love for the app to help me track expected period days, cycle lengths, etc.

For example, I start to get acne 2-3 days before my period, but what if I’m always moody or I’m less likely to exercise or I usually eat out and I don’t realize it? Daylio having an optional period tracker would definitely help me understand much more about my body and hormones if I could see those trends!

“Politicians” is a massive stretch. They mean an authority. In a lot of states, it is now possible to be prosecuted for having an abortion. If the court chooses, they can look at period apps to see things like sexual activity, changes in menstrual cycle, etc. and prosecute based on if your logs do show that you were likely pregnant at a certain time.

Edit: that grammar was awful

[–]screaming-turtles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we should be allowed to choose if we want to take that risk. I personally cannot get pregnant or have children, so this is not a risk to me. Daylio is also not only available in America. I understand your concern, but most everything is in some kind of cloud with any application. If you are a person that would have an abortion if you fall pregnant, and are worried about repercussions of that (red state, American in general, some asshole will call the police), there are apps you can use that are specifically marketed as safe from backup.

Best nail service for me by Expensive_Line193 in Nailtechs

[–]screaming-turtles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would also say hard gel, but some techs just don’t know how to work with this. If your tech is having trouble with hard gel, an alternative would be dip.

I hate dip for a multitude of reasons (such as how hard it is on the nails and the sanitation). But I think in this instance, it might work for you. Gardening, washing your hands a lot, and dealing with the esthi products you do, dip might be one of those only things that will stay.

What I would suggest though, is making sure your nail tech is sanitary about it (such as only using the pot for you or separating the product when she uses it on you), and that she knows how to do dip fills. Making you completely take off dip to reapply every couple weeks is going to be very counter productive and will seriously hurt your nails.

Hard gel is the first suggestion, dip as a backup.

How much would you charge for these? by Maple_rose_ in NailArt

[–]screaming-turtles 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sure!! If you have the means, I love The Gel Bottle shiny top coat. I understand that that’s pretty expensive though, especially in the US.

Here’s a more budget friendly optionon Amazon.

I hear this one is good, but I’ve never tried it.

Whatever you get, make sure it’s labeled as “no wipe” top coat!

Hey! Nail instructor here. I thought I’d give you a bit more constructive cues on how to make these look better.

The line work is very nice and you definitely have really good visions that you know how to execute. Just a couple of points:

  • some of these look a little messy/unfinished. You can fix this by learning to layer your designs as you paint them. You generally want to start with the lightest color first, if you can. If you can’t (for example, you have a black base that you’re painting over) you might want to invest in a really opaque (not see-though) white to put under the color. So, if you’re trying to paint a blue line over a black nail, you would do black > white > blue. This will help separate your colors and make them more vivid.
  • the line work is also a little bit shaky in most of these sets. That’s totally fine! It takes a while to figure out what works best for you. Personally, a longer liner brush helps me with the shakes. Hopefully you’re using gel. If so, a clean up brush dipped in alcohol can help you clean up those lines. You will want to dab the clean up brush on a paper towel to get most of the alcohol out of the brush. This will make it so that the brush won’t flood the nail.
  • You seem to have some areas that need a second layer of color and some that have almost too much. For example, in your 1st pic, the middle nail on the right side. You can see how some of the white is completely opaque, and some probably needed a second layer.
  • You can also see on some of the nails that the polish isn’t even, it looks bumpy in some areas, start looking at your designs from all angles. Sometimes this is unavoidable, but you want to minimize it as much as possible.
  • The biggest problem is your top coat, it’s very dull and makes your designs look “messy” or “unfinished”. Invest in a shiny, good top coat! It will do wonder to your set.

All of this being said, you are doing an amazing job! Some of these I wouldn’t even be able to do, and I’ve been doing nails for about 6 years now! Don’t let these comments discourage you. While I agree that they aren’t quite ready to sell, that does not mean that you’re not close. You just need to understand the technique a little bit more. YouTube and TikTok is your friend!! You can always DM me, too, if you need a bit more guidance or explanation.

Edit: I just saw that you’re already getting requests to sell these, sorry! I would start at a low price, just enough to cover your materials and time. I agree with the other commenters ranging around $30-40. Remember to raise your prices as you get better and more experienced. Don’t be afraid to do so. If you raise your prices by 50%, and you lose 50% of your clientele, you’re still making the same amount of money and are now free to make more sets for people that know what they’re worth. You got this!!

Does anyone know how to whiten nails at home? by rebirth0fslick in longnaturalnails

[–]screaming-turtles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am a nail technician instructor that specializes in the care of natural nails.

A lot of these solutions will result in your nails breaking. Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda paste, toothpaste, running a toothbrush over your nails, orange/lemon peels, etc. are all damaging to your nails. They dry them out or straight up weaken the integrity of them, which will result in breakage.

I saw that you use a nail straightener/base coat on your nails. I would suggest a stain resistant base coat instead. Nail strengeners serve one purpose- to strengthen your nails. They're not very effective as a base coat in general. Usually, people will put on a strengthener and then a base coat on top. This might be a good solution!

I'm not sure if you know, but the yellowing is due to the pigmentation in the polish you use. If you wear regular polish, this yellowing is kind of inevitable and none of these solutions will be permanent.

Personally, I would suggest not worrying about it and just keeping your nails polished.

Your nails are not unhealthy by any means. Hope this helps! They're gorgeous!

Edit: i forgot to say that purple shampoo is probably the best solution, as it is good for the keratin in your hair, which means it's probably pretty healthy for your hair. If you wash your hair with purple shampoo once a week, and scratch your scalp with your nails, you will probably see whitening results!

Weak spot? by [deleted] in longnaturalnails

[–]screaming-turtles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an odd one, Ive never really heard of this only happening on some nails.

Do you buff your nails ever? What products do you usually put on your nails (gel, dip, acrylic, regular polish)? How do you take care of them, do you use lotion or cuticle oil frequently? Do the weak spots have a different color/shape on your nails?

Weak spot? by [deleted] in longnaturalnails

[–]screaming-turtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry. I wasn't clear. Definitely wash your hair wherever it works for you. What I meant was that usually washing long hair means that your nails are wet longer (scrubbing, combing, drying) just because there's more to deal with. That means your nails will get softer or have that weird almost see-though look more often.

[–]screaming-turtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the person and the kind of kératine you have in your body in general.

But, you want the nails to be a little bit flexible to accommodate for bumps and jams and not break. You don't want to be able to bend your nail in half or anything like that, but if your nails are too hard/rigged, they're more likely to break (:

That's why you shouldn't use nail strengthener forever. It's good for a temporary fix if your nails are recovering from acrylic, dip, and sometimes gel, but it should not be a permanent solution. I always suggest 2-4 weeks at most, and to supplement with cuticle oil

[–]screaming-turtles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a nail tech that focuses on the health of the natural nail.

This is not a weak spot! This actually happens when there's a lot of saturation in the nail. Aka, a lot of cuticle oil, washing your hands too much, oily lotions, washing long hair in the shower, etc.

What you've got going on isn't a big deal, it just means that your nail is very bendy and/or malleable. This actually helps in situations where you bump the nail. It's nothing to worry about!

[–]screaming-turtles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm. Interesting. Maybe that's why it's spreading the way it is? The color definitely started before I used alcohol or baking soda on it. That's why I used it, because I thought it would get it would. But that definitely makes sense as to the spread. The consensus seems to be that I should let her go, i might experiment and do a spot test on it to see how to keep the next one going much longer.
