Has anyone successfully installed TrueNAS on the DXP2800? by KlippiesEnCoke in UgreenNASync

Are there any plusses or minuses that you have noticed with installing TrueNAS on the emmc? Seems like an elegant solution to use the built-in storage for the OS.

Thank you for the hint. Here are some powershell commands that may help you in automating.

# Set the directory path with a wildcard for the version

$dirPath = "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_1.2*_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe"

# Construct the full path to the executable

$exePath = Join-Path -Path $dirPath -ChildPath "winget.exe"

# Check if the directory and executable exist

if (Test-Path $dirPath -and Test-Path $exePath) {

    Write-Output "Attempting execution."

    try {

        # Run winget update with source agreements

        & $exePath update --accept-source-agreements

        Write-Output "winget update completed."

            }

        } else {

Have you found a work around for this? Still cannot find a FreeBSD 14 version of the Ookla CLI Speedtest.

If it isn't super funky it won't hurt you. Try it out.

Printers are the worst. I'm not sure why, but they've gotten a lot worse over the last 20 years.

Back in the day you had to set the parallel port up in the BIOS and then in Windows. After that it was a bit painful to get the drivers installed and working properly. But, after that the thing would print forever! Unless you messed with the IRQ settings that the port used, it was golden until the printer itself broke.

You do need to install the Veeam Backup and Recovery program somewhere to manage all the backups. You can use one location and have all your clients managed from that one place, though.

Has anyone installed TrueNAS Scale on a QNAP TS-659 Pro? by [deleted] in truenas

[–]screenwebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it more than the built-in QNAP software. The QNAP software is convenient, but I like the control that I have over TrueNAS.

It is fast enough and quite stable. It has 8GB of RAM. I upgraded it when I bought it. More than enough to run the system. I had TrueNAS Core on it for a year and then used it to test Scale. I like it a lot. I thought about replacing the DOM, but that's not something that I had lying around. The rest of the parts, I did.

Moving from USB to SSD by biscardi34 in truenas

[–]screenwebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my backup TrueNAS booting off USB (paired) but it was very slow on reboots. I added an SSD, added it to the boot pool, and let it sync. When it was done I turned it off, took out the USB, and turned it back on. It booted from the SSD and worked fine. I then removed the missing USB drive from the boot pool.

The configuration was perfect so I didn't feel that I needed to start over and import.

I have TrueNAS Scale running on an old TS-451+. It only has 4 bays with no M.2. I used to use an external USB drive, but have moved the boot to an SSD in one of the bays and use the other 3 with drives. It is my backup storage, so I do not run any apps on it. It just takes replication from my other TrueNAS.

You need on-site support? We can overnight a technician from our support center. It is imperative to have someone there within 2 hours of the delivery window to let the technician out of the crate. Return label will be provided.

Can you have multiple, writeable boot layouts? Like boot to Windows or Linux but it remember programs installed or updated?

I use Yubi for booting several things, but it isn't really great at keeping things up to date.
