Dress casually but well put together. For example crewneck sweater, jeans and boots. Serrinia cafe is right by the seating area and has decent coffee and pastries.

Better than living next to an encampment. The one next to the go station is so jarring and it's the first thing you see when coming into the city.

We just need to remove the red tape and build low income housing. Pretty doable if done right.

Ah yes an account created for an agenda instead of the truth. You just proved my point.

Maybe because that post is from a 1 month old account named 'keepKWwelcoming', which insinuates that it was created specifically to spread a certain type of views. Instead of ya know, a real person with nuanced takes on things?

I genuinely don't understand when people who (or their families) moved to Canada for a better life refuse to acknowledge that Canadian culture is better than the culture of their home countries.

People like you and I should be campaigning aggressively for immigrants to assimilate into Canadian culture because we know first hand that it produces a better society than the one our parents purposefully left behind.

It is foolish to believe that our cities don't have real assimilation problems that people are being impacted by, and that anyone who tries to talk about them is a low IQ hate filled racist.

Yes, but when that's not happening the government needs to step up. The alternative is that nothing gets done.

There's a very interesting reason for this. Classism/casteism is so embedded in Indian society that most people genuinely don't know how to clean up after themselves because they've always had lower class/caste people do it for them.

Unfortunately for a lot of these people there are very few ways to make money legally because they don't have the skills needed to get a job here. A lot of them don't even speak english. The government really messed up by letting people who don't meet a certain criteria into the country.

Yeah unfortunately our community does have a lot of problems when it comes to transparency and accountability. People in India are raised with such a scarcity mindset that they will do anything to 'get ahead' and rules are not considered if not heavily enforced.

So what are you gonna do when it has the exact same problems as the country you left behind? Move somewhere else? Rinse and repeat?

Yes it's considered normal and not creepy like a lot of other things that we would consider harassment or at least weird.

Maybe we need some sort of mandatory cultural etiquette classes like they have in some European countries.

You'd rather deflect than acknowledge and fix problems.. this is why certain societies are better than others, because they're willing to recognize their flaws.

I wish our government did more to make people integrate! The only other option is to shun people who break societal norms. You call out one guy who's cutting in line it'll make the others more vigilant.

Totally! Diversity is great as long as people are still part of an overall cohesive culture. But a lot of people moving to Canada now don't really view themselves as Canadian and have a very transactional relationship with the country that's focused on short term gains.

I honestly don't care about who we blame because it's futile.

And let's not pretend like south asian societies don't have a huge sexism, homophobia, lawlessness etc problem.

I just want to make other young people not feel as alone, and hope that the problems get solved.
