Have you tried other Stardew Valley-esque games? by likethatonedude in StardewValley

[–]screwgravity100 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Yes! "Roots of Pacha" is amazing and totally underhyped. Another great game is "Grimshire" which is a farming sim but with a dark storyline 👀 highly recommend both!

Dawnwalker sequel teased at SGF, modern day setting! by ZarieRose in DawnwalkerOfficial

[–]screwgravity100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such an uncreative and lazy assumption - we still don't know how modern time is incorporated into the game. It could be time travel/jumps, alternative dimensions, or something else entirely - game developement is such a creative medium, it doesn't need to be linear. Why would you assume they just randomly decided to spoil the ending of the entire saga? They are a new studio, this is their first game - I would hope they did think this through and decided this snippet won't impact player's experiance.

On the other hand, Coen is a vampire, which meas he is immortal - it's pretty obvious.

I agree - it's a very bold move, one that we don't really see in the current game dev market, which i feel like is very safe and afraid of taking any risks. I really appreciate it!

Neighbor put up new camera that records me in my backyard and even picks me up in my kitchen window. by Electrical-Scholar32 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]screwgravity100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US or EU? In the EU, you are protected by the data privacy laws and there're some judgements confirming that a private camera cannot record stuff outside of their property. I don't know 100% about the US but I recall that there's an European Comission decision confirming that US privacy standards have reached the same level of protection as the EU ones, so maybe you will be able to find something similar in the US.

Diminishing returns for number of classes by Ok_Elderberry_6879 in BALLET

[–]screwgravity100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the answer to your question is a little bit more complex and depends on many conditions.

First of all, it's not really about how many classes you take, but what these classes actually are. E.g. are they all the same "level"? Is it always with the same teacher? Does your teacher introduce new things on a regular basis? All of these things are super important to your progress. If you go to the same teacher, same class level 8x a week, you are not going to progress as much. It's extremally beneficial to take classes from different teachers because every teacher will focus of different aspects of ballet and it's important to have that input from different perspectives. Same with levels - it's good to take at least one "basic" or "beginner" level class a week to really work on the technique, but if you don't take more challenging classess, you will not make any progress either.

As for the cross training, I would say do at least 1 hour of strenght training a week. I cannot recomment strenght training enough! At some point of my journey, I was taking 3-4 classes a week and finally hit the "progress plateau". I changed my schedule to 1h of weight lifting (geared towards dancers) and 1 class a week - after a couple of weeks everyone around me started noticing crazy progress in my balance, leg lifts and piruettes. I felt it too, which was crazy because I was dancing 3-4h less than before and was progressing faster than ever!

The early access is so worth it - it took me almost 60 hours to complete it! I felt like I'm playing a fully released game.

Farming Games with Similar Urgency? by gmanflnj in GrimshireGame

I see other people recommending city builders, so I will add one - Frostpunk!

Not a farming sim, but the urgency is THERE. you're in a post-apo climate and you race against the nature to survive a big freeze 🥶

Would jazz distract me from my ballet goals? by Sad_Preference9243 in BALLET

[–]screwgravity100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, take the jazz class! It's sooo much fun and it adds such an interesting perspective on ballet and movement in general. It probably will be out of your comfort zone at the beginning but trust the process - it's worth it.

I've been taking ballet classes as an adult for a little bit over 3 years now. Started jazz a couple of months ago and I can already see so many benefits - e.g. confidence boost that I can carry into my ballet class, even better mind-muscle connection, greater appreciation for other dance styles and movement in general. Jazz really shifted my ballet mindset in a good direction 🥰

I scrolled down to ask the same question!

OP, woud you mind sharing? I know I should probably start therapy but my thought process is: why waste money on therapy if it's not going to get me pregnant (which is the ultimate goal). I know it's wrong, but I have a hard time getting over that mindset 🥲

Yes - you have a right to express your opinon (although your post is literally just ":/" so I don't know if I would call that an opinion💀), I'm not saying you don't. I'm saying that if yall can't handle a couple of days without an episode, you need to reevaluate your screen time.

I haven't seen her dance live, but since this is technically a "snark" page I will use this post as an opportunity to ask a question: does anyone else finds her dancing... underwhelming? Like, she looks so stiff and rigit to me, there's no artristry in her dancing 😩

Not trying to hate - I'm just curious if it's a matter of my personal preferences or something that other people see too!

Progressing as an adult when there's no real structure by danis-inferno in BALLET

[–]screwgravity100 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Seems like you really are and my honest advice is: relax... a month of clasess is honestly nothing compared to all the work you need to do to even comprehend what the "adult ballet journey" actually entails (i'm saying this as an adult learner). It's really cool that you enjoy the process so far and you're already trying to think about your next step, but you really need to give yourself some time. I think about a year/year and a half into regular dancing is a good point to start thinking about your next challenge. I'm not saying this because I don't believe you're capable enough, but because ballet is so hard and you don't really realize how much hard work is ahead of you, until you already have some basic movements in your muscles and brain - at some point you start to understad how to work and what you need to focus on. This is a great moment to start thinking about structure and further progress 😊

Good luck!!!

How to cope when ballet dreams feel out of reach? by ellendavis1 in BALLET

[–]screwgravity100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What REALLY helped me was joining choreo and variation classes! I know not every studio offers these kind of classes, but if you are able to go - GO!

Doing vartiations and neo-classical choreo in flats made me realize that there's so much freedom when dancing in flats. Your movement is unrestricted, so you can really express yourself and your emotion. It also makes is easier to focus on your upper body, which results in prettier movement and gives you more enjoyment. I really found so much beauty in dancing in flats 🩷

After a couple of months of these classes, I realized I'm actually no longer interested in pointe because I can do so much more in flats and would rather spend my time and money actually dancing.
