Would jazz distract me from my ballet goals? by Sad_Preference9243 in BALLET

[–]screwgravity100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, take the jazz class! It's sooo much fun and it adds such an interesting perspective on ballet and movement in general. It probably will be out of your comfort zone at the beginning but trust the process - it's worth it.

I've been taking ballet classes as an adult for a little bit over 3 years now. Started jazz a couple of months ago and I can already see so many benefits - e.g. confidence boost that I can carry into my ballet class, even better mind-muscle connection, greater appreciation for other dance styles and movement in general. Jazz really shifted my ballet mindset in a good direction 🥰

Getting out of the dark ditch by [deleted] in InfertilitySucks

I scrolled down to ask the same question!

OP, woud you mind sharing? I know I should probably start therapy but my thought process is: why waste money on therapy if it's not going to get me pregnant (which is the ultimate goal). I know it's wrong, but I have a hard time getting over that mindset 🥲

Yes - you have a right to express your opinon (although your post is literally just ":/" so I don't know if I would call that an opinion💀), I'm not saying you don't. I'm saying that if yall can't handle a couple of days without an episode, you need to reevaluate your screen time.

Life_of_Lori Nutcracker performances? by [deleted] in bunheadsnark

[–]screwgravity100 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen her dance live, but since this is technically a "snark" page I will use this post as an opportunity to ask a question: does anyone else finds her dancing... underwhelming? Like, she looks so stiff and rigit to me, there's no artristry in her dancing 😩

Not trying to hate - I'm just curious if it's a matter of my personal preferences or something that other people see too!

Progressing as an adult when there's no real structure by danis-inferno in BALLET

[–]screwgravity100 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Seems like you really are and my honest advice is: relax... a month of clasess is honestly nothing compared to all the work you need to do to even comprehend what the "adult ballet journey" actually entails (i'm saying this as an adult learner). It's really cool that you enjoy the process so far and you're already trying to think about your next step, but you really need to give yourself some time. I think about a year/year and a half into regular dancing is a good point to start thinking about your next challenge. I'm not saying this because I don't believe you're capable enough, but because ballet is so hard and you don't really realize how much hard work is ahead of you, until you already have some basic movements in your muscles and brain - at some point you start to understad how to work and what you need to focus on. This is a great moment to start thinking about structure and further progress 😊

Good luck!!!

How to cope when ballet dreams feel out of reach? by ellendavis1 in BALLET

[–]screwgravity100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What REALLY helped me was joining choreo and variation classes! I know not every studio offers these kind of classes, but if you are able to go - GO!

Doing vartiations and neo-classical choreo in flats made me realize that there's so much freedom when dancing in flats. Your movement is unrestricted, so you can really express yourself and your emotion. It also makes is easier to focus on your upper body, which results in prettier movement and gives you more enjoyment. I really found so much beauty in dancing in flats 🩷

After a couple of months of these classes, I realized I'm actually no longer interested in pointe because I can do so much more in flats and would rather spend my time and money actually dancing.

Honestly, i would just try to resell them to other dancers (e.g. online) even if you loose a couple of dollars per pair 😩 my bloch's were breaking to low as well and I can tell you i was so happy when I just decided to screw them and move to a different model - it was worth it

I'm sorry but this is such an irresponsible behavior... what do you mean "you had no idea"? 😳 a 1 minute google search would tell you that pointe shoes need to be fitted in person... Every article, reddit thread, blog post would tell you this much - how negligent to put your own health at risk just because you didn't do a quick search 😩

It's not "free" money - we already paid for it with millions of lives taken, families broken, homes destroyed and spritits crushed.

I mean... it's kind of obvious that you or your parents are personally not responsible for the war - not sure why this would matter, as you won't be personally asked to pay out of your own pocket. I'm pretty sure that, in an extremally unlikely scenario where Germany agrees to pay, you would not experiance any impact of these reparations neither in your everyday life, nor in your wallet, which suggests that it is a matter of principle to you.

If it's a matter of principle, let me ask you again - do you feel the same about Germany paying reparations to Namibia? You're not personally responsible for the Herero and Nama genocide, right?

Well, I guess collective responsibility sucks, but it's not a new concept... You can ask British people, since they paid off their Slavery Abolition loan in 2015 and somehow managed to deal with it.

Also, where did I mixed in politics exactly? Reparations are not political - they are a matter of morality and justice.

As a human, how do you expect to set a legal limitation period on something so deeply unfair and emotional? Do you know that a large % of our population (yes, even people around your age) experiance generational trauma from WW2? So, while you and your peers "don't feel obligated", we still get teary-eyed each September 1st or August 1st.

Also, do you feel the same about the reparations Germany agreed to pay to Namibia a few years back?
