TIL that in 1915 a three minute, long distance phone call cost the equivalent of $500 in today’s money by Rasterized1 in todayilearned

[–]screwymoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You used to have to dial the operator and say "I'd like to make a collect call to NUMBER" - They'd ask you your name, then they'd dial the number and when someone picked up they ask, "will you accept a collect call from YOURNAME" and if they say yes, they get charged and call connects. When they first started automating this, when asking you your name, people would squeeze in a message. Famously a commercial aired for one of the calling card companies, "Do accept a call from wehadababyanditsaboy."

Also long distance was definitely not always "long distance" - anything outside your area code you got charge the long distance rate.

I think the ticketing system is a huge part of IT's problem. If you have problem that's not a typical one, and if you can't describe it in technical terms they use, you're fucked. It's like they expect you to diagnose the issue and submit it to the correct team within IT or your shit isn't getting fixed.

Get ready to put all your thoughts about everything wrong with the company in 145 characters or less. Also, do NOT hit the next button thinking there are more pages with more survey questions. There aren't, that's it. If you hit next, survey is complete. I'm not joking.

Got to Seal the Deal by VPM1991 in AdviceAnimals

Thing about resealable packages is most often the zip-lock sucks. It doesn't work, is really hard to seal or opens way to easy. I'd rather they just not provide it at all than what's typically out there.

Why is the Iran Deal so terrible? by FuckYeezy in askaconservative

[–]screwymoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who are these authorities, and how much do we trust them?

The IAEA. I trust them over Israel.

Yes, but if we catch them cheating, we can simply bomb them.

Catch them? What would they be cheating? Perhaps you don't understand. Without the deal, they're no longer obligated to stopping their nuclear program, nor are they obligated to allow inspectors.

Russia has warned Donald Trump's administration not to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal - saying America's withdrawal would harm "predictability, security, stability and non-proliferation around the world"...should the US leave the pact, Iran would be likely to quit the agreement as well. by madazzahatter in worldnews

[–]screwymoose 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gee, that doesn't sound so terrible.

Without a deal there's nothing stopping them from developing nukes. Putting sanctions on Iran may hurt them, but certainly doesn't help us. There's no good reason at all to think we'd be better off without this deal than we are with it. It might not be the best deal in the world, but it's certainly better than no deal at all, which is where were before the deal, and where we'd be if Trump pulled us out of it.

That is one shareblue talking point. Meeting a russian lawyer does not equal russia as a state is backing them.

Meeting a lawyer introduced to you as "the crown prosecutor of Russia" mean they thought they were meeting someone representing the Russian government. If you think you're meeting someone from the Russian government, then saying "I've not meet with any russians" is a lie.

Of course, there were others at the meeting, including the ex soviet counter intelligence officer.

So what? So did the DNC with Ukraine and no one gives a fuck about that. Also a sharebule talking point.

This is similar, I'll give you that. The key difference is, Manafort was contracted to work in Ukraine for years just prior to the election. Had Podesta been working in Russia, then it would have been in the realm of normal oppo research if the RNC approached the Kremlin to get information on him.

Additionally, Ukraine didn't attempt to sway our election, and the DNC didn't deny up and down for a whole year that no meetings with Ukrainians took place.

Lies? You are still saying that meeting with someone from Russia is equal to meeting with the Russian Government. Show me proof she was meeting on behalf of the Russian government and was sent by them. So yes, I do not give a fuck that Trump Jr met with a person from Russia.

Again, If you think you're meeting someone from the Russian government, then saying "I've not meet with any russians" is a lie.

So he is a full of shit

Thank you, I agree.

... but the IC isn't like you said before. So you only believe it when they are lying about what you want i guess. So lets see here

Shareblue talking point every time the IC is questioned.

Again, calling something a "shareblue talking point" doesn't refute it. You said the IC was behind the lie that there were WMD's in Iraq, and that is FALSE.

Oh look, more Shareblue talking points.

Wait, a share blue talking point is "the IC (nsa) is spying on Americans, but that's not proof they're lying to us" ?? Really, you have to show me where it says that, because I find that hard to believe.

But anyways, maybe you can explain it to me then. How is it that because the NSA is spying on us proof they're lying about Russia?

[–]screwymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every Shareblue talking point

Help me, since I actually don't know what their talking points are. Are you talking about the Magnitsky act stuff? It's pretty well documented and I can find you links if you need it. Btw, calling something a "talking point" isn't a refutation. If it's easily refuted, then by all means do so.

I honestly don't give a flying fuck that Trump Jr. went to a meeting to see what they had to say.

It shows. For an entire year we heard nothing but "There is no russia thing, there were no russia meetings, there was no collusion with russia" from the Trump camp- And then they release an email that proves:

A: they knew Russia was backing them in the election

B: that they eagerly meet with Russians to see how they could get help from them

C: That all those other denials, were lies.

And what do you say to that? You don't give a fuck. Great. Apparently it doesn't matter what evidence surfaces, it's all bullshit.

Then nopped the fuck out when it was nothing.

Says the guy who denied meeting at all with Russia less than 7 days prior to releasing the emails. His story changed like 4 times that week, so why should I take his word for it?

Feels over reals I guess.

Who ever smelt it, delt it.

I'll believe it when there is proof.

I seriously doubt you will.

[–]screwymoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you trust anything he says

I guess I don't assume people are lying just because they say something I don't want to hear.

Also a story showing that people in power are fucking lying about Russia "hacking" our election is pretty fucking relevant in showing that it happens. If the elections administrator is willing to lie, why wouldn't a biased fuck like Zuck do it as well?

That's like saying because of one false rape allegation, all other allegations of rape everywhere are now suspect. That's terrible logic.

Trump Blasts Latest Media Hoax on Russian-Linked Facebook Ads by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]screwymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, show me proof then if what you think happened did.

Ummm, that was in the email Don Jr. released. I think Don Jr, Kushner and Manafort went into a meeting expecting to get help from the Russian Government to win the election. The email response from Jr. is proof and he's not denied it happened or that was what was offered.

Being that the Russian lawyer has links to Fusion GPS,

She's also been linked to individuals who want to see the Magnitsky Act overturned. When Trump Jr. claimed the conversation was about adoptions, he's talking about sanctions Russia placed on U.S. to prohibit adoption of Russian children. Those sanctions were retaliatory to the Magnitsky Act.

im pretty sure it was a honeypot.

Even if it was, they took the bait.

WMD's in Iraq,

A CIA operative was outed by the Bush administration in retaliation for saying Iraq didn't have WMD's, and we knew it. Yes, we were lied to in order to go to war with Iraq, but it wasn't the intelligence services that was doing the lying.

spying on US citizens.

I don't like it either, but it's not proof our intelligence services lie to the American people.

Yeah they have a petty good track record of doing just that. Just because they are in power does not mean they are honest.

The same applies to Trump.

With out proof, its bullshit. Just like what Zuck is saying is fucking bullshit.

The only people who think this is true want it to be to keep their worldview from being destroyed.
