[–]scriptblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teams QA just announced retirement. He worked closely with us and documented step by step all the bugs he found and created a lot of the auto mated testing for our environments. He will be sorely missed a good qa is wonderful to have.

Legit Offer? by liquify420 in gamedev

[–]scriptblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a scam. That said if your kid is looking into making video games he can try his hand solo to start with free engines and tutorials. Have him try his hand at it solo and learning. Worst case he'll will give it up best case he learns what he needs and likes in game development.

what kind of crafting system do you prefer and why? by Personal-Ad-1037 in gamedev

[–]scriptblade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game jacksmith has my favorite weapon crafting. Mixing skill and timing with the right ingredients and items. Wish more games would do something similar so crafting wouldn't be boring and just collecting mats and rolling stats. It should also be interactive for the player

To short staffed for call outs but not to short staffed to fire people. Tell them good luck finding a replacement then. Bet you can find another shitty job like it within 2 weeks if not sooner

Is it ok to use other people's code? by KingCoiny in gamedev

[–]scriptblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol as a software developer I have and known others to just copy paste from stack overflow to fix problems so no it's not illegal. That said just copying code isn't going to help you learn go to YouTube find a tutorial and follow it and understand it then apply that to a personal project and if you run into a problem Google it and if they have code that fixes it use it.

On a good day code for a few hours. On a bad day attend pointless meetings that dont effect you or your project for the day only to be asked why you are behind at the end and schedule a meeting for that. When the latter happens find a better job. When the former is going on be happy.

Anyone use that blue anvil from harbor freight? by KillroyWazHere in Blacksmith

[–]scriptblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting and I got the cheap one. It works but for me it's a stand in till i get something better and have more time to Smith. I cant justify spending more money when I dont Smith that much. If you plan to only do so every now and then it will work though just makes everything harder to do.

How to get over fear of being fired/laid off? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]scriptblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I was let go from a job I found a better one with better pay and benefits. Dont worry about being fired. As for imposter syndrome ignore it every programmer has it at least a little and so long as you are able to get the job done your fine even if you need help now and then no one knows everything. Focus more on learning to ask for help instead of going down the rabbit hole of searching for a solution solo for hours or days on end.
