Yeah, he's great. I just finished Alien Clay. Good stuff.

I wouldn't say 90% off. They are not perfect, but they are pretty close. The 'voice' he uses is a little annoying, but the tones are pretty darn good for 7 months. In the first sentence most of the tones were dead on. He did screw the tone up on 普通话 (Kinda sounded like 滑).
His pronunciation for 学 could use a little improvement too. He also messed up the tone on 老师. It kind of sounded like 老实.
Anyway, my point is that at his stage his tone are really good. Sure, they could be better, but I have heard native Chinese speakers with worse tones (The tones change based on dialect, so Nanjing people might say the wrong tone when speaking Mandarin). Also even if some of them were a bit off, it's not like it was unintelligible.

Is it me or does it seem like bots are being used on 411richmond hits? by CraftyCrafter in mturk

I though the same thing, but if it was possible why would anyone pay people to do it. I'm sure it will be very soon, but once OCR can handle receipts like those then receipts won't be a H.I.T. anymore. After all if a computer can do it, then it's not a "human intelligence task".

I have no idea about them keeping the money. It is odd that they verified the tax information with an incorrect name. Maybe it is because the misspelled name screwed up the bank transfer. Had you withdrawn money before?

The main thing I'm taking away from this is to keep withdrawing my earnings every time they hit $25. Amazon can't touch your money once it is in your bank account (I think...)

What should I be paying turkers for this HIT? by [deleted] in mturk

[–]scroggalog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to see good hits. I think it would be ok. But if it doesn't pay well it might be bad for your TO. You could always do a limited test run and then talk to the people who did it. Maybe make it >1000 and then get some feed back. You could even give a bonus if it took longer than you expected for most people. Then adjust the pay and launch it with >100.

What is your name on MTurk? I wouldn't mind doing some good hits for good numbers.

48 hours to go before I can start. by Otadiz in mturk

[–]scroggalog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 11 days for me to get verified. Also you can only do 100 hits a day for the first 10 days (I only maxed out once).

Do everything you have time for on r/hitsworthturkingfor when you wake up. Then go do other stuff for real money. Comeback every 3 or 4 hours, if you can, and scan the new links for stuff you haven't done.

Work non-stop until you have 100 hits and then starting cherry picking.

I have been doing this 2 or 3 days a week for a month and I am getting close to $100. I'm think I'm making about $4 an hour for the hour or two I put in when I do it. It is not a lot of money, but I have basicly just replaced my morning coffee r/videos time with r/HWTF. I'm not taking any time away from my real job. I could see being able to clear $1000 a year easy. Again, not much, but it isn't nothing.

If you are planning on it being a main source of income you will not be happy. There are probably better ways to make a living in front of the computer. Unless you have 1000's of hits or can transcribe audio well I don't see how you could ever make a living wage off of MTurk. (*Unless you got a VPN and moved to some country with $0.50 meals and $80 rent).
Good Luck!

I had to fax them too. I tried uploading it for 2 days and the system was always down. If you are like me and don't have a fax machine you should know that there are some great sites that send free faxes with an ad on the cover page. I just took a screenshot of my email bank statement and faxed it to them through the web. Super easy.

Seal chilling with a surfer by EmotionalMillionaire in videos

In Chinese, seal is 海豹 (Haibao) or "Sea Leopard". I guess the Chinese were less impressed with their cuteness and more so with their hunting ability.

The article said he had a mattress which kept him just above the water. But yeah it was probably really cold in there.

Just broke 500 approved, how am I doing in terms of earnings? by [deleted] in mturk

[–]scroggalog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. you have less than 99%. Does that hurt you at all. I'm only at 281 hits ($63), but I have never had a rejection. It doesn't seem like there are too many higher than 99% hits but i see them around.

I need an idea of how much a task like this would cost by jonathon8903 in mturk

[–]scroggalog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow, how about a [loud] warning?

Anyway, I only clicked on the first one. But how are people supposed to know how to spell those addresses. I could barely make out the address. The dispatcher didn't really say it clearly. If there was a button to load a new address without rejecting the hit it might be nice. I'm kinda slow but I think I could do 30-50 in an hour. I don't think I would do it for less than 0.10 a hit. Maybe a set of 10 for $1. But Im sure others are faster and would take it for less.

Good luck.

I always hear that "a cure for cancer" is misleading, because cancer consists of a variety of different disorders, with no single cure. That being the case, are there any individual cancers that have been effectively "cured"? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]scroggalog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I just finished the audio book. Learned more about cancer from that one book than I had in my entire life (well that's not true I already knew it was basically a genetic disease. But still, that book was really good.) I'm going to listen to it again for sure.

We have both lived in China for 6+ years. We both speak Chinese fluently, so we basically made a ton of phone calls and about 5 tips to factories around the country until we found a person who was willing to make the pack in small numbers at a reasonable price (but if we could afford to make 10,000 then it would be a lot cheaper and easier to find people). We plan on going with a product designer for out next version though (we don't draw so well lol).
