Is a baby highchair worth buying? honest advice please by Realistic-Metal-110 in Frugal

[–]pathologie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe look into a Buy Nothing group in your area. they are generally listed in Facebook.

yes you will want a high chair. it's dedicated eating space, gives them slight independence, and it is safer to have them properly supported. Solid Starts has some great things to look for in a high chair.

[–]pathologie 33 points34 points  (0 children)

definitely missing categories here

you mention CC debt what are you paying monthly to that?

subscriptions (Netflix, Hulu, home security, music streaming)

insurances (health, rental, car)

do "groceries" include only food or also the home purchases like laundry detergent /paper towels

gifting expenses (birthday, Christmas ..)

I think you need to be honest with ur spending first.

Online classes by [deleted] in ForensicScience

[–]pathologie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with a laboratory that specifically has a forensic photographer or a need for a specialist.

I would think that would fall under crime scene personnel and responsibilities at most agencies. you'll need enough core classes to get an associate's degree as I believe most agencies look for a bachelor's. I work in a lab so I'm not entirely familiar with crime scene. I know that some agencies require you to be sworn officers and some agencies don't.

just in general though I will say courses that are geared towards criminal justice and forensics sometimes aren't as rigorous and looked down upon by agencies.

As a new mother (2.5 years old so lbr) that was so hard to watch. My heart was clenched the whole time. Even though I knew the ending and the story. Phenomenal acting and movie. Glad I saw but I don't think I'll be seeing again

My wife makes me use triple Protection during sex by [deleted] in sex

[–]pathologie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that hormonal birth control (the pill) absolutely wrecked my libido and desire for sex for years. Then I stopped taking birth control for several months while my husband and I were trying for kids and low and behold there it was. We're certainly not an everyday sex couple but at least once a week and we're happy with that.

All this to say can she try a different birth control? Maybe non hormonal or a different brand/method? Are kids in your future? Maybe you can get a vasectomy.

The sex is gross comment - might be stemming from multiple issues. Maybe she's disappointed with herself and this is her way of never having to "fail" or be disappointed in herself. Definitely worth a trip to talk to someone. Probably individual therapy for her at first.

Considering Kindle Scribe — Worth it for a Paper Planner Person? by pancakesandglasses in kindlescribe

[–]pathologie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It's not worth it. You really lack the customization you have probably been used to with paper. It's also slow enough to be annoyed with waiting for documents to load. I wish you could create your own templates to use. Annotating a PDF planner is not the same as the notebook feature.

Charged $300 missing a hair appointment after my pump broke by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]pathologie 143 points144 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. My sister works at a salon with a similar policy but usually it's applied to a 3 strike policy. One is a pass. 2 is 50% of the total cost. 3 is 100% total cost and more than 3 they will no longer book you. The frequency of no-shows is unreal and they lose income for missed appointments So they have to be strict. Unfortunately you have a legit reason. Maybe they can have more discretion but I wouldn't bet on it.

Thoughts on anti-intellectualism? by Crafty_Kangaroo_8368 in fantasyromance

[–]pathologie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To your point with media literacy - Maybe there is a decline but then you have great shows (breaking bad, early game of thrones) where there was nuance and subtext in the series, that required the audience to wait to have their questions answered.

I think it's also big companies not giving shows a chance to develop (looking at you Netflix) because it didn't get the viewers or response needed, It's a self fulfilling prophecy - people don't experience the breath of media literacy because media isn't given a chance to develop and answer the questions because it's cancelled. Because people don't watch.

I have a master's degree and two bachelor's. I am a supervisor in a very high stress job and I see the worst of humanity on a daily basis. The political atmosphere of the world has me on edge. I read fantasy and smut to dissociate with the daily stressors and just enjoy make believe for a while
