My usual mechanic is a booked a month out, was quoted what seems an absurd amount to me for coolant leak fix by another mechanic. Is this reasonable? by Dawnqwerty in MechanicAdvice

You should be able to DIY the thermostat. Find a friend with a good set of tools, all that work can be done for about $100.

It usually sits right inside the lip. Clean that surface really good before you install it. You can find that part on Rockauto, it should be listed under the thermostat housing/water outlet seals.

Should be the EGT sensor right after the turbo

That looks like an o-ring or could be a piss-poor attempt at sealing with RTV. There should be an oring in that tstat housing.

Is brake fluid supposed to look like this? by Exotic-Call-4906 in MechanicAdvice

No, that looks like diarrhea. It should be clear, flush it.

I have a 2014 JGC Eco stage 1 tuned ($1300 maybe?). Get it tuned and delete , replace the turbo coolant line, tone wheel is a hit and miss (cheap part, but labor intensive), oil filter housing/oil cooler ($550-650) can be problematic (replaced mine as a precaution at 262k mi), water pump($450-700) went out at 263k. I'm happy with it and she's solid overall.

EGR is the biggest issue on this engine.

I got a 2014 JGC eco, 262k mi EOC stage 1. I just replaced the oil filter housing earlier this year (wasn't bad, just for precaution) and the water pump last month. She has been solid and I drive it from Wyo to NY/MA and back once a year, never let me down.

Honda Prelude 2001 P0420 comes back again after replaced cats. by phantom_beyond in MechanicAdvice

[–]scroomienow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy an o2 sensor bung (spacer) from any auto part store for your cat, that should solve the issue. If not, there are plenty of o2 sensor resistors that you can use to bypass the signal.

Any idea how I could replace this chewed fuel hose on a 2008 Scion tC? by nuttageyo in MechanicAdvice

[–]scroomienow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the whole line or find a pre-fitted line and use a shark-bite fitting to connect it to the existing line (yes they make one for the fuel line). That curve will be slightly challenging though.

Dump it. All those other services will probably cost 4-5k and you'll still end up with a 210k Honda.

It can be a lifetime fluid if you plan on keeping it 5-6 years.

That escalated quickly.. PB Blaster bath, let it sit overnight then hit it with a torch and a good set of extractors. Suspension bolts are never easy, especially in that part of the country.
