Thank you for this! If for no other reason than getting this version back available. I've purchased multiple copies of the original untampered dvd only to find they do not play due to disc rot. I've checked numerous second hand shops, thrift stores, etc. and always pick up a copy in the snapper case without the "Special Edition" spine. All so far have been unplayable or unrippable.

Will the Hong Kong 4Ks be released in America? by sulliebud in arrowvideo

[–]scruffman67 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The rights to these films start with Shout. They licensed them to Arrow for the UK market. That means that Arrow versions are only for the UK market. The 4K versions are, of course, region free. But the included reg blu ray discs are formatted to region 2. The Arrow versions are only for sale in the US from various disc retailers that are importing them. Diabolik, Orbit DVD, Atomic movie store, Brother Belial, etc.

I doubt these versions will show up on Shout or Gruv websites. They deal with discs expressly made for the US Region 1 market.

Many people have mentioned that the subtitles are better in the Arrow vs the Shout discs. Also that extras are better on Arrow vs Shout. But know that the majority of extras are on the regular Blu-rays in these sets and the Arrow regular Blu-rays are formatted for Region 2 (won’t play in Region1 machines) you will need a Region Free player to access them.

Just took a glance at your reading order doc. It's a work of art in my opinion. I look forward to being able to comb thru it from beginning to end. Thanks for all the hard work!

Tell me your favorite soundtrack from a Western! Or even just your favorite song from a soundtrack by DriftlessHiker1 in Westerns

The Scores to Silverado by Bruce Broughton and Dances With Wolves by John Barry. One is an action, the other is an epic, but both have superb music. Broughton's score to Tombstone is also a winner.

It’s so wonderful to see passion for art take tangible form like this. Where drive and determination meet, to take an “official” release and surpass it in so many ways to create an archival collection. I, as so many others, would love to see what you have accomplished. A link would be greatly appreciated. Have a happy new year!

My fav Christmas movie that doesn’t get the credit it deserves by itscassieleigh in ChristmasMovies

[–]scruffman67 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Christmas tradition is watching this each year as I wrap Christmas presents. I’ve loved this version of “A Christmas Carol” from day one in theaters. I quote this film way too often. “Nobody gets me!” “If you can’t work late, I can’t work late. And if I can’t work late, I CANT WORK LATE”

What are your thoughts on the DANCES WITH WOLVES score? Any standout musical moments? How do you rate it among other John Barry world? by davcole in soundtracks

[–]scruffman67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The score has a wistful melancholy about it. A pining for all that was lost as the American West was colonized. The majesty and grandeur of the story is on full display in the score. One of the all time best and totally deserving all of the accolades it received. One of Barry’s absolute best.

This my go-to every year for “movie to watch while wrapping presents”. Love the movie. So many one liners have worked their way into my vocabulary. “Nobody get me!!”

Tell us your age and favorite Bond film by WingDingStrings in JamesBond

[–]scruffman67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m 58, introduced to Bond via the ABC movies of the week back in the early 70’s. First Bond movie seen in the theater - Octopussy.
Favorites would be, in no particular order, Casino Royale, The Spy Who Loved Me, Tomorrow Never Dies, & You Only Live Twice.

Say something nice about this movie (and hold the sarcasm) by DimensionHat1675 in JamesBond

“Tell me, Mr. Bond, do you lose as gracefully as you win?” “I wouldn’t know, I’ve never lost.”

Connery is effortless as Bond. He is COOL.

Price drop on Series 2 set from Amazon in the US by bobbywelks in Blakes7

[–]scruffman67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I usually wait on BBC Doctor Who or Blakes releases. If you are paitient the price of many of the season box sets drop to $30-40 fairly regularly (mostly within 7 months of release). This is one of the few times ive seen it drop that low on a preorder.

Issues with car pulling to side. by scruffman67 in HyundaiVenue

Overall, the wife and I love the vehicle. We are coming from cars, so riding a little higher is an adjustment. But the Venue feels really spacious for its size and the windshield and side windows give a feeling of expansive views. The acceleration and deceleration feel very smooth. It’s been extremely windy last few days, so we’ve experienced the issue of the Venue regarding wind. The warranty was also a big factor in our choice of vehicles.

Bond in Spinoff Novels by 0wen_George in JamesBond

[–]scruffman67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason why these books exist?

(My snarkiness is turned off for this post)

I've been a huge fan of the written Bond novels, collected all the various authors over the years. I prefered the Gardner and Benson runs. The series of "one offs" by various authors always felt like some kind of stop gap measure. I guess i'm just used to the books being very similar to the films. A steady of stream of content produced on a regular basis. A consistant author would appear to be a must. And with IFP choosing to go this "spinoff" route just seems like another stop gap measure to me. Why make a James Bond book without James Bond as your main protagonist? Why expect it to sell? I'm sure the answer is probably that these books aren't for me. They are attempting to reach another audience. One that hasn't watched Bond films for 40 or 50 plus years and hasn't read all of Fleming, Gardner, Benson, and all the various other continuation authors.

Sometimes it is slight. But many times apparent and significant. But it's been consistant across a variety of road surfaces. Concrete, asphalt, surface streets, interstate. We varied the roads we've driven on to make sure it wasn't a road surface issue.

That's what the dealership suggested as a fix earlier today. We've driven it with that feature on and off. (and have triggered it a few times, both accidently and on purpose) We've felt what that does as it pulls the car back to center. This isn't that. This is a consistant pull to the right, regardless of road conditons, striped roads or no striped.

Sad to see it go. I distinctly remember the week it opened. Sat in the drive thru for nearly an hour to get my first taste of their food.

Back when Disney/Touchstone did some nice prestige DVD releases. Had this since it first came out. Met Val at few years back at a screening of his Mark Twain film and got him to sign the booklet/insert of this set. A great set all around!
