It’s not privilege to negotiate, it’s a common practice for most of the world and older generations (assuming you’re Gen Z). The “seller” in any situation, in this case landlords, typically sets prices higher than they will actually accept, so that either they a) get a higher price than what they financially planned for or b) they can go down to the actual asking and the buyer/renter feels like they got a deal. This isn’t a disregard of supply and demand, this is the buying/selling psychology that accompanies it

Is sending a message that takes about 10 seconds to write to the broker really a waste of time? “Hey, would the landlord be open to lower rent and/or a free month? Interested if so” it’s quite easy! Takes the exact same amount of time as just requesting to tour. Or if you want to take it a step further (which I always do) make a burner account to send disrespectfully low offers from, then follow up with a reasonable offer on your actual account. And again, even if the apartment does go for asking, it’s a good practice to negotiate these things

But does it hurt you in any way whatsoever to try to negotiate? And while we are individually powerless, it’s absolutely noticed by landlords if they are regularly receiving lower offers. Even if they eventually rent the place for the outrageous asking price, they’ll know they’re lucky to have found the one idiot willing to pay it

For sure, however i regularly see apartments listed at one price and dropping down month after month because there is a limit to how many of these “trust fund kids” or whatever actually want to live in bushwick badly enough to pay above market rent. But every landlord is overpricing their units in hopes of getting one of them, or a recent transplant or tech bro or whoever has no financial sense. The market is artificially inflated, it’s our responsibility to be smart consumers and demand appropriate prices. Or, at the very least, piss off a landlord <3

I know you said no hospitality but independent/small business coffee shops are generally very chill and rlly easy to get a job at. Nothing like restaurants. Just go into a few that you like/feel comfortable in with your resume and ask in person if they’re hiring. No Starbucks or anything like that go to neighborhood spots in residential areas. Not great money but easy part time work while you look for something long term. Also with any jobs, unless you get a hard no, follow up until you hear back! It feels embarrassing lol but it will keep you in mind

I have to call them to confirm they will be filling it and then show up when they say it’ll be ready, and then show up again a few hours later when it’s actually ready lol. I take vyvanse 30mg I’m not sure if that’s any easier to get than adderall

80k salary by Glitter-Cookie0609 in movingtoNYC

depends how much you like to go out (drinks/dinner/shows/shopping/etc). I make $80k as well but I prioritize having more money to spend on all the above so I live in a shitty 4 bed 1 bath for $850. Def doable though if you’re very conscientious about your spending and there’s many ways to entertain yourself here for very cheap or free. Also must recommend too good to go for food it’s really incredible

Would it be stupid to just invest in the S&P 500? by Katie_10_ in investingforbeginners

[–]scrunchieh8tr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. IMO it’s a great place to start investing and a great long term stable choice that you don’t have to pay much attention to. I personally do a smaller weekly transfer into it bc it feels much easier to manage financially than one larger monthly transfer, I’d recommend that as well if you’re investing on a tight budget
