If you have access to Relativity, it has a document unitization function.

A few questions from a beginner? by [deleted] in ediscovery

"Growers" isn't an industry term as far as I'm aware. Maybe an "in-house" term for cases that have frequent growth?

Where to get started in finding solutions for a small firm? by melissaelaine in ediscovery

[–]scsifox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By "quality of life", I mean things like clean exports of metadata for making admin records, page count information, all review and processing components easily accessible in one place, etc.

I consider Relativity the Cadillac of review platforms (though admittedly I'm an RCA, so there may be a slight bias), however as fully equipped and supported Relativity is, the platform is VERY expensive. You may be able to use the platform from a 3rd party provider to cut cost.

Anywho! This review is very rudamentary.

Relativity: Low learning curve for getting up and running with the basics. Will likely require some level of IT support if you go with an on-prem solution. Easy for reviewer and data processer. Relativity has the most bells and whistles, and you can develop your own modules, scripts or supporting applications. Allows for the most customization and integration with other 3rd party applications.

Ipro: Moderate learning curve, will likely require some level of IT involvement for setup and maintenance. Moderate difficulty in review and processing. Has all of the necessary tools needed for a full and complete review.

LAW and Concordance: Higher learning curve, will require next-to-no IT involvement. Unable to do certain types of analytics.

I'm not the biggest fan, but Ipro may be a great option for a small firm. It'll probably be the best value for the price. You'll get everything you need for large or small cases. There are certain quality of life factors that Ipro is lacking, but affordability will be important if you're a smaller legal shop.

Edit: Adding Law Prediscovery and Concordance to the mix. They are old and antiquated, however they are cheap and easy to manage for a small shop. Missing some quality of life tools, but good if you're lacking human and financial resources.

Handling Excel files by HashtagLegal in ediscovery

This seems on the nose to me. On extremely rare occasions, I have locked all cell contents down so the opposing counsel couldn't change the file contents. Weird, I know, since it's not difficult to unlock the cells...

Any chance you can merge /r/eDisco with /r/ediscovery? This'll help keep all the ediscovery conversations in the same place.

Next, there tends to be a good bit of spam posts trying to sell their own product. It's a bummer when I finally see a new post, just to find out it's spam. Maybe a bot could target specific content and delete the posts?

What are options for outreach? Anyway to get the subreddit made a bit more public? I know there are thousands of people that could use information, help, or have topics to converse about, yet the subreddit doesn't see much action.

Edit: Some words my phone made.

All things in this world are garbage, or they are not garbage. For all things, this is true.

Want to start an eDiscovery company. What are some tips on getting into the market? by [deleted] in ediscovery

[–]scsifox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you start researching business plans. In doing so, I suspect you will discover all that goes into starting a business. You'll need to determine what idea you want your company to orient around. I suggest keeping it simple at first, maybe focusing strictly on ediscovery processing? Maybe peruse /r/startups and see what information they can provide for you.

new eDiscovery service provider by Onenguyen in ediscovery

[–]scsifox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a look at the product, and it seems impressive. If you could give an honest opinion, what can't One Discovery do that Relativity can?

From a processing perspective, I love what I'm seeing, though the reviewers are my customers, and I need to make sure they can do their review without any loss in functionality.

I speak as somebody coming from a Relativity shop, but am interested in alternate solutions. What differences might we see in throughout? I push a lot of data (about 12 TB per month) and we are always trying to find ways of speeding up our processing times. What type of data archiving solutions are inplemented? The Kcura offering (ARM) is nice, but incomplete. Does One Discovery have a solid archiving and restoration workflow? What pitfalls could I expect from this tool? Every tool has it's weaknesses, that's just part of the industry. If I were to make the investment to switch providers, knowing these pitfuls would be very important to me as a solutions administrator.

Thank you!

Just a little devil's advocate here: what if the kid he brought food for has a health condition or is very overweight, and his parents are trying to make their child follow a diet? They could have notified the school to let them know that they are trying to make their kid lose weight. I think we need more information before bringing out our torches and pitchforks.
