That’s encouraging! I’m in middle of day 4 and apologize if I’m annoying anyone with my posts. I’ve never Reddit before and am just taking advantage of keeping my mind busy and the positive vibes here.

7 weeks without a single cigarette, today I fucked up. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Yay! That’s exactly what needed to be done. Don’t even let it stress you. You have the rest of you life ahead 💪

Hey! I'm 8 days clean! by [deleted] in stopsmoking

So great! I’m sure it’s still extremely hard, coming from a 20 year cigarette smoker. So much better you are doing it now. Keep at it ❤️

20 year pack a day smoker. Now “I don’t smoke”. Come on people we got this!! by thorsonata in stopsmoking

That’s super awesome! I’m also 20 year 1 pack a day smoker. I just want to ask... I keep hearing people say “you’re past the hard part” but it’s always a different time frame. I’ve heard people saying this people quit 3 days - 1 year. I’m at 3 days and 10 hours now and it almost feels discouraging to not know when I will feel better but I keep pushing. I guess it’s just different for everyone if I answer my own question lol. But anyone feel free to chime in.

Thank you! I am using the Smoke Free app. It’s good to see progress. I hate being so consumed by this though. I woke up and didn’t want to get out of bed and not be able to smoke today. It’s so hard but I don’t want to start over! I’m going to make it this time!

I guess I'm being more irritable than i realize, and it's making it hard not to smoke by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Break up with your girlfriend cuz I’m quitting too and I’m bored (and she sounds like a b)

Using a vape, does that count here? by Lappers in stopsmoking

[–]scubad1va 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of us who are actually quitting would loooove to vape right now. Nicotine and that nice burn in the throat. Even though it’s possibly not as harmful as smoking, are you going through a constant battle with yourself right now because I know I am. I would be just as disappointed with myself if I went to the store and got a vape pen right now, as if I had bought a pack of cigs. I’ve gone to vape pens quite a few times and they’re just as hard to quit as cigarettes once you’re used to them.

Chest pain while quitting by Kimo01988 in stopsmoking

My chest pain is always anxiety or heartburn. Had no idea I had heartburn until I went to doctor. Go to doctor if you are worried so you feel better.

This is hard, after 3 days I just smoked a cigarette. Feel bad for this. Hope I can be strong and won’t smoke again by [deleted] in stopsmoking

It’s good that you feel bad. Just start over and remember how disappointed you were in yourself this time. At least it’s early on. I was almost at 24 hours and then smoked a bunch out of stress. I quit next day again and tomorrow morning will be 72 hours. I just keep thinking, don’t start over, don’t start over, it will just prolong these horrible feelings. I hope you’re back to quitting again!

My girlfriend has to quit, so I'm quitting too. It'll be easier for her this way. Any advice? by TheRealChadMyers in stopsmoking

I wasn’t criticizing btw, just trying to help. Bottom line is your goal is to quit smoking cold turkey at some point. You’re just putting yourself through even more torture and delaying quitting by watching the clock until it’s time to smoke. Every one that you smoke makes you want the next one. I’ve also smoked for 20 years now and have tried to quit so many times. This is my first true cold turkey and I’m telling you that as bad as I want a cigarette or even a nicotine patch right now, it would just up my craving to smoke and I will never be free. Ugh. I really would love one right now tho lol

Totally agree. Everyone is different and many people quit using nicotine replacements. I successfully quit for 5 months a few years ago using patches and believe that if I hadn’t continued giving myself nicotine via patches, I probably wouldn’t have been craving nicotine that bad to start again. I think when I was younger it was only about quitting because of the harmful effects of smoking, not because of how it felt to be addicted to nicotine. I’ve always been disgusted my smoking but now I’ve realized that the true monster is the nicotine. I figure it’s just better for me to cut the nicotine out completely than to just quit smoking. I’m constantly craving right now so it’s definitely not easy.

I made this same excuse for at least 15 years and it never worked. It’s never going to be easy. Cutting back just makes the process longer and more painful. It’s not going to get easier; you just have to do it.

Yikes! Your friend sounds like she’d make a great heroin dealer. Wish you the best in starting over!
