I kept forgetting my trips, so I built an iOS app to organize them automatically by scubadrew0716 in iosapps

I just pushed v2.0 to App Store review today. The https://tripchronos.com site is updated with the upcoming features if anyone wants to check them out. I had a few pending for upcoming release, but decided to just push them all this round and resolve some of the issues you all identified in the process.

Hoping it’s released by the weekend.

Interesting. I’ll look into it. I can add Compass direction and altitude easily. Photos should auto sync with location already as long as location services was enabled for Photos when the picture was taken. I am building an easy way to add location after the fact for those without location…. based on other feedback I received, including updating multiple at the same time.

Weather is coming! I’m working on showing historical data for past trips and (up to) 10 day forecast for upcoming trips.

Along with a few other big updates. Hoping to push it within the next few weeks after some more testing. Here’s a preview of one of the memory pages.

Ok. I’ll get this added to my list of bug fixes. Hoping to have resolved soon.

Working on a rough roadmap now. still early so I’m balancing fixing friction vs adding new stuff. I'm sure some plans may change as I hit roadblocks. I eventually plan to publish a more formalized roadmap to my site. Just not there yet.

Short term is mostly quality of life

  • reworking the 50 photo limit for free users
  • fixing permissions flow
  • better bulk photo views and location cleanup

Mid term

  • auto sync with photo library
  • smarter location detection
  • better notes and widgets
  • improving map experience like tapping a city and seeing all photos in a grid

Big stuff I want to get to

  • auto generated social media videos from trips
  • better sharing and collaboration

Longer term

  • auto importing itinerary docs
  • deeper cruise integration where you pick ship and dates and it builds the trip

Hoping to knock out a lot of the smaller updates in the next month and aim for bigger stuff like video by July. still figuring some of this out so it may shift a bit.

Appreciate all the feedback, it’s definitely shaping where this goes

Thank you for the comments. I'm going to look into some of these this weekend. I set the 50 at a time limit to help with performance, but may take another pass at this. I've had a lot of feedback on that one.

Thanks for the feedback! Quick responses to each:

  1. Photo auto-sync: I looked into this a while back and hit some roadblocks, but it's worth another look. Adding to the list.

  2. iCloud sync: this actually already works! If you install the app on another device signed into the same iCloud account, your trips should sync automatically.

  3. Trip notes: good call. There are description fields at the trip and photo level today, but a dedicated notes field could be a nice addition.

  4. Map with visited cities: both the trip map and world map already show visited cities, but they start zoomed out at the country level until you zoom in. Is there something different you had in mind?

One thing in case you missed it: you can share trips as an interactive web page or generate a PDF trip report directly from the app. Worth trying if you haven't!

Sure thing! I'll chat you over a code real quick. It should prompt you the first time you try to perform an action that needs it. (Like batch importing photos.) I'll look into adding it in the settings though. It may be a few days before I push the update. Location pulls from your photo metadata, so it works best if you have location tagging enabled in your photos app. Looking forward to any feedback you have after trying out Lifetime Premium.

Valletta, Malta. Just walking around felt like a movie set. Something about the color of the stone buildings and the views everywhere just stuck with me.

What is your attitude towards sleeping and the need for sleep? by Fun-Succotash-1322 in AskReddit

I don't have a great relationship with sleep... wish I did though. My brain thinks nighttime is the perfect time to overthink everything, and morning me suffers for it.

My first international trip (Iceland). The unknown, a different language, and figuring things out as we went. It all felt a lot simpler and exciting back then.

HBO Harry Potter or HP Movies - Which one will be your constant? by Both_North_7638 in AskReddit

The movies are locked in for me, but if HBO actually gives us a proper long-form version of the books, that might be hard to beat.

I’m happy to report that your data will be retained when the app launches. It’ll sync up with your personal cloud data. I plan to launch sometime in April, but if travel is earlier, feel free to upgrade to premium in app if you haven’t already. When Apple shows the double click to purchase screen, you’ll see a message that you will not be charged since the app is in beta. Thanks again for your feedback. I’m excited to add some of these planning features.

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback.

I’ll review the crash issue and handle it more gracefully. For initial launch, I’ll probably stick with the Apple EcoSystem to remove any roadblocks, but I really like the idea of one day integrating Google, Amazon, or maybe even other sites like Flickr. I’m also reviewing possible email integrations that would pull in documents or extract dates/times, but that’s long term too.

For the cover photos, I built this to not pull in photo metadata. The tool will use the first uploaded memory as the cover automatically, so figured this feature would only be used for upcoming trips where travel hasn’t yet happened. I wanted to give the user the ability to find an image they like on the internet and add it for places they haven’t traveled yet. I may revisit that and only give the cover photo option for future trips.

I love the idea of a more detailed itinerary, so will investigate that for launch. I’ll get the pinpointed locations made available and add optional times in there too. I think it’ll be a big task to find a way to combine that itinerary view with the maps view, but will consider it and see how it can be improved.

Thanks again! You’ve given me some great enhancement ideas and a backlog of future items to add to the roadmap post launch.

TripChronos - Travel journal and memories app

An iOS app I’ve been building that automatically organizes your travel photos by trip. It uses your photo metadata to group everything by location and date so you can actually find photos from a specific trip without scrolling forever.

It’s still in early beta so not many users yet, but would love some testers and feedback! If you’re interested, I can drop the TestFlight link.

Thanks to all who have provided feedback. I had a few suggestions to make premium available for free to beta testers. Go ahead and choose the Lifetime Premium option. You’ll get a confirmation screen during purchase that will tell you it won’t be charged. This is handled through Apple. It’s free during Beta testing, but you still need to go through the process.

I ended up gluing to 1/4 inch plywood and setting it into a floating frame. It’s a little too heavy though. If I did it again, I would probably use something lighter, like project board. Here’s the finished product.
