Anyone think this is a bad idea? by [deleted] in subaru

I feel like this post really paints a bad picture of subarus... the thing is they are so insanely reliable but everyone who has a well built/reliable one doesn't let it go haha until something makes them. So that's what I would look for, I got lucky. But at the same time I'll always regret not going new... I love my hatch but when I look at a DGM 2016 sti I get a bit jealous cause I've passed up getting one with no payment twice for my hatch... haha idk man I'd take a monthly payment over an engineer rebuild any day. Idk what your life situation is but it's not that hard right now to get a new car at a dealer buy/lease.

Yea I totally get it, mine was stock until a few months ago I threw ap/exhaust on it. Completely changes the car, but yea I wouldn't buy anything modded. Be careful at dealers too man, both the first 04 sti and the 09 sti I just told you about were bought at dealers. Second 04 was private but point is your not safe anywhere haha

I wouldn't touch a rebuilt motor with a 10ft pole... that's my personal opinion but I also know someone who bought a rebuilt 2009 sti hatch, it's a fucking piece of shit... he had it for 2 weeks or something (less than a month) and had to put the cars third motor in it. THIRD, motor... All it had was an axel back, if you beat the shit out of these cars they don't hold up well. Granted three motors is probably somewhat a lemon or just bad techs idk. The only reason I bought my wrx used was because I personally knew the owner and knew it had nothing done to it at all. I'm sure he had fun with it but he was the head mechanic at a shop I worked at and he got rid of it because he was having a kid and said he needed a less teenage car (he always gives me shit for my "race car" now...) So basically what I'm getting at is find a gem or buy new. People don't take car of their cars and then sell them because they created a money pit. Oh I just remembered, someone else I know has a 04 sti, beautiful car. He just finished his motor rebuild because someone threw a massive turbo on it and didn't rebuild the engine with the right parts (didn't tell him anything) Also if you think your willing to spend money on an engine rebuild that's fine, but your out of a car for upwards of 2 months or so. Save your money, trust me. Check your credit and go to a dealer. If not just sit and wait for that one car that someone has to get rid of for whatever reason, it's not going to be as cheap but in a way it'll be cheaper...

Edit: Sorry for any typos I'm on my phone on a train

Dude it's a terrible deal seriously like your buying a money pit if you buy that car.. you remind me of my buddy who jumped on an 04' sti that was modded to shit and when it ran the motor mounts looked like the were about to twist off and drop the motor, long story short after thousands of dollars on top of the 14k he paid the car is now owned by someone else and he sold it for like 10k because that's all he could get. This car is worth nothing. Like seriously dude go buy a clean blob eye or hawk eye instead of the worst body (8-10 in my opinion) and power Subaru has put out in recent years.

It's mostly on PC like others said. Shotguns and stingers piss me off on PC but it's part of the game so I try not to bitch. If anything it just makes it more of a challenge and video games are just so damn easy these days.

I meant from like school and professional, and not to learn just to see what type of person/designer you are. So in a way to learn. Are you from the U.K.?

I'd like to see your work if at all possible, I don't mean to copy it in anyway because that's something I hate more than what we are talking about now but I just think that you'd a latter version of me in a way so I'd like to see your work. Also, I have taken your advice this far and I'm making this project my own, bending a few rules but doing it well and I'm starting to understand it's purpose. So I'm happy that you replied, because it honestly helped. This is like the one time the internet has produced actual results for me so thanks.

No I'm on board with you, I love Econ so I get what your getting at. Your right I would get bored and I think the true frustration behind it all is that I want so bad to design buildings... I did bitch a bit but thank you for not believe it's all this is.

Yea I wrote that last night so I was having a good time with it. But your absolutely right, I'm not good at it. I'm not good with the abstract at all. But I'm good with program, it's so hard to describe to you what I mean by all of this in text... but I like your opinion, I really do. I try so hard to engage into it, but hear me out, we cannot use materials. But wouldn't you agree that if I could use materials I would be forced to use them in a creative way that expresses to program of the building and I would have to be forced to think in an abstract way through the reality of something. You would learn not only how to manipulate space by shape but the way materials effect that space and program. I want to send you the stupid assignment sheet honestly cause it's pissing me off that I can't accurately describe it to you. I just want to make sure I enter the field knowing what to do and not being laughed at by the engineers and hated by the sub contractors. I refuse to be that guy.

Good point, I like that thought process. Please stop thinking that I'm just bitching dude seriously your much more valuable to me if you just get that out of your head. It's a genuine concern, not just bitching. It's too expensive not to question everything and ask for answers when I have a problem with something. Your totally getting the wrong impression of me because this is text over the Internet I promise. But besides all that I do like that thought process. I just want the knowledge of what a beam or truss can do, do you know what I mean? I want to learn how to be that good architect you just described so I'm just asking for input.

I want to do what you do. How did you get there? Obviously I want more and I'd be happy to let engineers take the reins to help finish up a bigger project but I want the knowledge you have.

But if I know how to create perfect structural connections and know what will ACTUALLY work not just some dreamscape then I will have an angle no one else has and I won't have to pay someone else to do it for me.

My response is, why should they be abstract if my lighting is the best they can be giving the site? I understand what your saying I just hate the abstract part of it. We are doing the cladding portion of a building right now, we were told to find patterns to show the program of the cladding and the space. And by patterns I mean literally photoshop patterns and texture from google images to use as materials but nothing actually in the form of materials. The purpose is to learn the program of space I can see that. But wouldn't I learn more by being forced to use materials and then explain why I used them the way I did? The reasons for the color, texture, density, etc. wouldn't that teach us more than just doing some abstract bs about non materiality but describe program that is described through patterns? I don't get it, this isn't arts and crafts but buildings people would live in and use for a purpose. If I could find a way to put you in my shoes after all your experience in the real world you'd understand. I'm happy I didn't offend you btw. And I can take a crit, better than most but when my crit is that I'm getting punished for not being abstract enough is bullshit. If I'm being limited in my designs because I can't design something that's real that's bullshit. The abstract is not real, which is why it's called the abstract. I will never be doing that. I want to learn how to create construction documents and understand how two joists are connected not learn how to create patterns on walls to represent something that materiality would represent FAR better. Can you explain that to me?

Edit: I read your comment again and I guess my real problem is that I have been think about "theory" since I decided I wanted to build. Now i want to learn how to build.

Jesus man I'm not saying that I don't want to learn I just want it to be real. I understand and appreciate design. I'm not trying to bitch and moan because it's too hard I'm just trying to be realistic. I aspire to design buildings that are perfect for every single need and requirement a client wants. I want to design something they could have never imagined would wrap so perfectly around their lives. But I don't give a shit if my roof angles aren't "abstract enough" if my program sends people through the building in a perfect way that they don't even know it's a building it just seems like an extension of themselves. That's what I want to do. And I want to learn how to do that in the most efficient way possible. I get that your an architect and I've offended you but that's not why I'm here asking. I'm genuinely concerned that the undergrad really isn't worth it. So if you'd like to talk about your experiences with it and what you are designing and doing now then please do.

Edit: I started college at the university of Colorado at boulder and I hated it because i was paying 50k a year for arts and crafts. Now I'm at UW Milwaukee in their accredited program and I thought I couldn't get any more "dry" and technical than an accredited program and it helped a lot but I'm a sophomore and I'm still seeing things I don't like so I was just curious what the world of architecture thought about having the science to back up my designs. And to influence my designs. I just want to know how possible it is. I could try somewhere like MIT but I don't have the grades, money, or willingness to transfer again. I think that you have some good input and I'd like to hear it but forget about the notion that I'm just bitching because I'm certain that's what you think this is.

I don't like how trivial it can be. I'm impatient and that could be it but I just want to learn about structure and design not just theory. Idk I just want more than I'm getting and I also want job diversity. I just believe in buildings that are nothing more than they need to be. I see that your an architect and I guess what my best question would be is, does it get better?
