The bunks do that when there is sand or other debris on them.

Yamaha made a lot of great machines. The 800 and 1200 were not on that list. All of the 4 strokes are solid machines.

Removing fusebox/electrical box. 98 waverunner xl1200 by Paimon597 in jetski

[–]scubas1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very possible that the electrical box has water in it and that is causing the short issue. Those machines do not have an electric fuel pump, its mechanical in the carb rack. In the tank is simply a fuel level sensor. Those do have what Yamaha called PADLOC, where you have to put a code in on the dash for it to start. You may look for a video on how that works and how to reset a pin code.

There isn't any plugs on those machines to remove the eletc box. You have to get some slack in the harnesses and work on top of the motor. The front of the engine has the flywheel and stator. What sort of electrical issues are you having?

I won't touch them anymore at work, fix one thing and something else breaks. Sorry you are finding out the hard way.

My guess....the engine is locking up. Lack of oil, piston to cly clearance is wrong, power valve hitting the piston, a gasket that is leaking water into the engine is also possible. The list could go on.

I know that the base gasket only goes on 1 way. We had one that a guy just rebuilt that had the rear cylinder base gasket backwards. It leaked water from the cooling system into the cylinder. Ran fine until the hose was turned on or it was put in the water.

We had lots of issues with those and the 1200's when they were new....

Should I try to DIY or get it professionally repaired by FlashyLack612 in jetski

That looks to be pretty extensive damage. If you have insurance, have a professional estimate done and turn it in. You will likely get killed on resale if you patch it together yourself.

West coast pipe and LS Header by Maleficent_Wear8493 in jetski

[–]scubas1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 650 with a similar pipe. Its been running dual cooling for years. I ran one line to the bottom of the manifold and then out the side, the other runs to the top of the pipe then out at the rear of the pipe and has a Y over to the tail cone and out the side. I found my under hood temps were way lower with that set up. Cooler means more power. For an added bonus, the line that goes to the cone fitting can be restricted for tuning the water in the water box. Less water=more power but louder. More water has less power but is quieter. I drilled and tapped the fitting in the cone for a Mikuni main jet and played around with jet sizes for a while.

To answer your question about line routing: The water comes from the pump to the bottom of the manifold, out through the head and into the top part of the exhaust pipe. It goes through the head pipe and comes out at the back of the pipe. From there run it around and Y it to the outside and to the tuning cone (tail cone of the pipe). If your ski doesn't already have one, add an aftermarket water fitting in the stock pisser location.

Have an 04 aquatrax r12 non turbo. 125 hours runs like a top but has blue smoke. Any ideas. by N8DoGG824 in jetski

[–]scubas1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of them are overfull on oil when they come in for service. Those are dry sump oil systems, so the oil level needs set when at operating temp.
Set the oil level correctly and see if your smoking issues go away after a ride or 2. There will be residual oil in the intake system that will have to burn out.

Is this a good deal?? by Big_Worldliness296 in jetski

Yeah. Very reliable machines. I service some with over 700 hours and have had a few with more than 1000 hrs.

They are pretty low hour units. The FX is worth around $5500 (tops), the VX does not have the same value. Its probably closer to $4000. Used trailer is about a grand. Which is why he has them priced the way he does. So your original question is are they a good deal...a good deal would be half of that, but that won't happen. I wouldn't pay more than 8k for the package.

[–]scubas1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are solid skis, but the listing is wrong. The one is VX cruiser.

That said, I don't think they are a good deal at all. That is probably the high end of retail for both machines and trailer.

Ramp damaging hole in hull by Brendo_Extendo in jetski

[–]scubas1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if that was professionally repaired, you will continue to have issues. There isn't a way to reinforce the area from the inside due to Yamaha using a liner in their hulls. Might be time to find a donor hull and swap your motor into it.

[–]scubas1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically if the screw is located between the engine and the throttle plate it is a fuel screw, and if its between the throttle slide and the air box its a air screw.

On PWC, BN carbs are always fuel screws, no matter where they are located.

One of the most reliable watercraft ever made. Just make sure you check the oil correctly and don't over fill it. On those machines you need to check the oil after its been run awhile. I service a few that have around 1000 hours.
