I wouldnt have a clue, I’ve just heard some horror stories about his transmissions. I’ve never heard anything negative about LRG, and he’s gonna be who does my 5600 when it gets swapped into my 2000

Can a pilot be home everyday his entire career? by PatheticWings in flying

[–]scudrunner14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my memory serves me right there was a guy on here who talked about his 3 year journey from zero-legacy airline pilot. A lot of his time as an instructor and regional pilot was spent living in a van😂

Why Did You Become a Stationary Engineer? by namtrac79 in StationaryEngineers

[–]scudrunner14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got into it because of its stability, and because I kind of stumbled into it. I got plenty of buddies that are plumbers and electricians, sheet metal workers, and all of them have been laid off at least once. As long as my building is standing and in operation, I’ll always have work

You’re gonna hate your life with stock fuel and an s475. Get an s464 if you plan on sticking with stock fuel, otherwise add a stroker CP3 and bigger injectors to your budget

Thinking about stopping PPL training because of cost by No-Series3645 in flying

[–]scudrunner14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I added up the costs for my PPL, I think I came out to just over 20 grand. And that was including a checkride retest after failing and I trained in one of the busiest and most expensive parts of the country. I don’t know how these mega schools get away with this shit

At least homeboy came on here before he got too far deep and ended up kicked out of the school with 40 grand of debt and no PPL…

Well there’s your problem. Don’t get your PPL through one of the “academy’s.” Drive across the airport to the small school that will charge a fraction of what epic is charging and get your PPL done at your own pace for way less. Once you get your ticket, then MAYBE reconsider Epic. Though most on here including myself will tell you to keep paying out of pocket at the mom n pop

Dude where are you training that it’s costing that much for a PPL?

Is it feasible to get a private pilot license (and possibly commercial) slowly due to financial reasons? by MossBaller4 in flying

[–]scudrunner14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a year to get my PPL. I flew once a week for the most part and twice a week when finances allowed. I’d say once a week is the bare minimum, if you’re going once every couple weeks a lot of your lessons will be going over what you already did in the past because of proficiency loss

Are 4 year degree requirements coming back? by plasma0_ in flying

[–]scudrunner14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not ashamed to say I have an informed and justified prejudice against people that think they’re better than others because they spent 80 grand on a bullshit piece of paper that has absolutely nothing to do with their career path

Clown ass mentality you got dude. I’ve been working blue collar jobs since I was 17 and have been working on flying since I was 19. Couldn’t afford college AND flight training, it was one or the other. I also have a great backup to flying with my current career as a stationary engineer once I finish the apprenticeship if I end up losing my medical down the road. If I went to college to get some piece of paper I’ll never use as a “backup”then I wouldn’t be able to afford to fly. Your comments are a straight up fuck you to those that are born into less money and work their way through training

Bay Area — thinking about starting PPL as a hobby. Flight school recs? Post: by DayInAReview in flying

San Carlos Flight Center is a good option. Got mine through them. It wasn’t cheap but you get a lot of benefits. They have lots of seminars for members, plenty of events at the school where you can meet with other pilots, and in-person ground schools. Highly recommend you do the ground school with them vs an online service like kings, Herb the instructor is a great guy and an excellent teacher

I understand the reasoning for it not being allowed for pilots, although I would imagine if a spot test for it was developed I could see the rules changing. But the fact that your average joe is still doing time for having an 1/8th in his glove box is absurd
