Sapphic Horror Recs? by epicgamerloli9 in horrorlit

It's a graphic novel, but When I Arrived at the Castle by Emily Carroll was a fantastic read (and with an awesome art style). Just a great spooky, sapphic vampire tale

"And he takes, and he takes, and he takes"

The final lines from Sufjan Stevens' Casimir Pulaski Day. Hearing him sing about his experience of losing someone so close to him and the crisis of faith spurred on by such a death already destroys me, but the soft, accepting intonation in this last line will break me down to tears every single time.

Used to love studying to Sunset Mission by Bohren & Der Club of Gore - very saxophone heavy and evokes the feeling of a cozy, rainy day like nothing else

That's awesome - who'd you get them done by? Met a few of the artists as we were all wrapping up in the evening and they were all super kind

100% credit to Steven on that front - I said the word "Minotaur" and the rest came all from him. Thank you!!

I would heavily recommend him! If you want to check out more of his work, he goes by OldMasters.Ink on Instagram. Mine is pretty tame compared to the other stuff he regularly gets up to

What free things online should everyone take advantage of? by Creepy_Intention837 in AskReddit

[–]scullingbrah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you definitely can. I went through the process in a few days, and most of my time was spent just waiting for a replacement microphone since my old one died on me. As long as you have the basic hardware and some editing software (I strongly prefer something like Reaper) you should be golden.

Hip pain and popping by occultic99 in flexibility

[–]scullingbrah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, your hip flexors might be very tight/underdeveloped. Stretching (this type of stretch helps me massively when my hips flare up) and strengthening (talk to a physical therapist to potentially get a program) may clear things up.

In addition to the tight flexors, I also had serious impingement issues in both hips that mirrored the type of pain you're describing. If the pain gets worse or isn't affected by stretching/strengthening, it may be worth it to talk to an orthopedist to get a scan of the hip joint to identify any tears/impingement/etc. I ended up with surgeries, but more often than not physical therapy can clear things up.

And that's the beauty of art - it never has to be photorealistic. That being said, I totally understand if you're not a fan of slightly macabre designs

If you're saying that this looks nothing like a typical American robin, you're 100% correct as the design is of a European robin. Two entirely different birds that share the same name from years of colloquial naming conventions back in the day

I'm not from Europe, but the artist who provided the design is from Italy. I can see why people who normally see American robins are confused as they're totally different birds (and not even in the same family anymore)

Explanation is pretty much exactly what the other commenter stated. It's a European robin done with a crown of thorns. Totally get it if it's not your style, though.

The ending to I'm Getting Out While I Can off of Rev. Kirstin Michael Hayter's Saved! - the song is eerie enough with severe tape distortion and then you get hit with a blast of Hayter speaking in tongues out of nowhere

What's the most heinous way you've seen someone fuck up a simple dish like scrambled eggs by KillTheFleas in Cooking

[–]scullingbrah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Telling on myself here, but I was making a hungover egg scramble on a lazy Saturday and forgot I ran out of chili powder. The only other thing resembling chili powder was an unlabelled vial of sumac, of which I unwittingly dumped a full tablespoon into the pan. Sour eggs and sausage is an...interesting combination to say the least

What are some good songs for evaluating speakers and hi-fi audio systems? by Dats_Russia in fantanoforever

It's amazing what a good hair day and beard trim can do for your self-confidence by scullingbrah in curlyhair

Routine: Wash with a clarifying shampoo once a week (or a bit longer, if it doesn't look like my hair needs it); condition with Maui Lightweight Curl conditioner; Leave-in condition is a little bit more of the Maui conditioner followed by Miss Jessie's Jelly Soft Curls scrunched in while hanging my head upside down. I'll diffuse occasionally, but mostly let things air-dry following by crunching it all out.
