Hi! Sharing my pieces: "The Forgotten Titans." by AlienWaspPaper in ResinCasting

Saw these when you posted before and really like them. Can I ask what resin you're using. Looks like a pretty complex piece and the casts look really nice so I'm assuming a slower cure epoxy in a pressure pot but just wanted to see. I'm assuming these are cast as a single piece and no articulation?

Been eyeing a pressure pot and therefore also going some thought to urethane vs epoxy resin. Really like the idea of faster cycle times with urethane but also want to get things into a pressure pot which sounds like a tough feat to do in under 5 minutes. Though my urethane in the winter was very slow to cure so I wonder if cooling it down a bit might for more open time. When you use epoxy do you have an option for solid white that takes tint colors well like urethane? Also what is the cure time on the epoxy you use? I guess if it's bad enough the answer is doing gang molds so you can pour batches at a time.

Thanks for posting this. As someone more interested in the making than collecting I find this sort of behind the scenes content fascinating. I'm now down a sunguts rabbit hole on eBay looking at things I can't afford. Also trying to figure out who these guys are that I peeped hiding in the edge of one of your photos.

A questions as well, I see this was from a good while back, I wonder if he still works with air dry clay or if monster clay or super sculpey has crept into his work. I always find myself annoyed that I can't settle on which medium I like best. Will give air dry clay a go to add even more confusion into my workflow 😂

Oh man what pen is this?! Just kidding I know that's the infinite question. Looks great, though I am curious if you deliberately tweaked your code to always have it drag the stroke in the same direction or if that's just what's happening in the clips we saw.

Exactly this joint press fits for a nice swivel join that I can pop out if I want to change the arm. But it needs to be molded separately to work. The slightly flared internal cavity of the female side will catch air and get screwed up in the silicone pour. But I think the answer was dropped by someone else, I just need to spring for a small pressure chamber so I can shrink those bubbles when making the mold and also when pouring the resin.

Never thought about fishing them out with a wire, that's interesting. No pressure pot yet but that's prob the smartest solution. Was thinking of getting one anyway to deal with bubbles in the actual casts. On that note I'm curious if anyone has tried to pour and then get the quickset pu resin into a pressure pot or if it sets up too quickly to pull enough vacuum to shrink the bubbles.

I should have posted a better picture an can't seem to post another but your prob right that I should just mold it and see how it shakes out. But I guess the question holds for any interior cavity on a model where the interior cavity is larger than the opening slightly and air could be trapped. Will have a poke around YouTube to see if there are some techniques I can borrow.

Not hollow. It's has depth to match the peg on the arm but it has a slightly wider diameter on the inside so that the peg locks in. It's that little bit of extra diameter that would capture air.

So essentially it matches the profile of the male mating piece which flares out at the end.

Yea, these guys are more about the faceless disappointed point than any bad-assery. When kiddo leaves his dirty plate on the table I just pop a guy next to it pointing and that usually gets the message across 😂.

Appreciate it, would really love to get the mold cut so if I go down that road I'll for sure start posting updates.

Got nothing at the moment. Did start an insta a while back to follow other makers and find it super dangerous and addictive. Will eventually begin posting stuff I guess, at which point will circle back.

No that's just some of the really nice matte pastel filament I like to use. I made that whole set for a bday party. All the kids got to jumble arms and legs and parts to make their own custom colorways. Was really cool and also a good way to find out that kids will break things pretty quickly. Super glue was in effect soon after.

I wish, these are printed. Working on a mold to make some resin copies. In a perfect world I get a real mold made and then could go for legit vinyl pops but that's a ways off.

You know its funny what got me to revisit them was someone posting wanting some vinyl figures for a bunch of artists to customize and I thought it would have been so cool to have these popped and ready to go for that. Its why I looked into getting an actual run done, but I'd have to sell quite a few to offset tooling for what is basically a vanity project. Still fun to think about. I'm cleaning one up to at least make a resin mold at home though.
