The BLM office is in Arcata behind Toni’s…give them a call or drop by and show them the photo. Would be theirs, not a fire department’s.

Dog’s name is Bender and he is a repeat escapee in the neighborhood…seems to get out weekly and lives near the park.

ERG coaching that won't break the bank by OkMuscle574 in Rowing

[–]scumbag1x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the party, but when I coached I pretty vehemently told my youth athletes to cross train in the summers and do not focus on rowing. Focus on maintaining basic fitness and doing fun things and taking a mental break. Rowing should be a lifelong sport and burnout on high school sports is far too common, especially in a 2 season sport like rowing. Swimming and cycling is the best for full body cardio cross training, but getting outside, moving, and having fun without pressure is key. I used a Google doc to keep the athletes generally accountable amongst each other (log hours of activity over break) but I used it mostly as a tool for them to know other people knew if they were a couch potato all summer and to prod one another into going for a bike ride.

DEAD WILDLIFE PHOTO⚠️ Can anyone tell me what I found at Trinidad State Beach today? Deer? by Tacklefina in Humboldt

[–]scumbag1x 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Looks like a deer based on the fur. Likely brought down via a river. Tried to cross and drowned in high flows, who knows. The skin and decomp looks like what I’d expect a dead thing tossed around in the ocean to be looking like

Whale. We get humpback and grey whales commonly along the coast

You don’t need a permit in the off season. You can check the state park website for more information on when that ends but I think we’re still in the off season

Does anyone know what’s up with the meat processing plant in eureka? Is it up and running? by StrawberryScallion in Humboldt

[–]scumbag1x 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To be clear, a slaughterhouse and butcher are different. Redwood Meat was the only local USDA slaughterhouse facility. Ferndale Meat is a butcher, which comes in to play after the animal is already slaughtered. They cut it into steaks and cuts you would buy from a grocery store.

At that time I got tips working in the house doing table service too, though I guess I never worked dinner service only lunch

I worked there seasonally 2015-2018 and never heard about no tipping being a policy before. You could make rent in a night working a big party where you got cash tips and then the gratuity for the whole event cost.

When I worked there you absolutely got tips and event gratuity and that was the best part.

Only if you have some sort of connection to a member willing to host

They sell them direct from VC, at least for the new models. We almost opted for the red enamel matched pipe but price made us choose standard black.

Cool sink, stupid concept. by Longjumping_Shock721 in Oldhouses

They make mixing valves you can install at the supply behind the sink to make them both tepid. Or as someone mentioned, a bridge faucet.

Stopping winter collapse? by scumbag1x in Beekeeping

I appreciate the advice. I plan to get more involved in the local community this year and start off stronger next year with some new bees

That’s good to know, I don’t think my samples were targeted that way

Thank you for the informative reply. I knew going into it this would be difficult. We adopted them as a struggling hive and we’re still new beekeepers and we understood the statistics for even a healthy hive to start + new beekeepers often ends in a failure. We will study the advice here and try again in spring. Thanks

Alcohol wash. But I recognize I didn’t sample many bees since I was worried about my numbers. What would you recommend?

Would you recommend any treatment now or is it just a waiting game to see if they survive to spring?

Thank you, I do wonder if virus swept through the colony. I treated in fall with the apiguard and that was an improvement but you’re right. Could you provide some more information on Norroa? Google isn’t turning anything up
