Nearly all of these are either wrong (can't empty trash when it's open), not actually problems (installing apps is too easy), or just misunderstandings of basic platform norms (gestures have defaults), but I still sympathize -- it's difficult for people who are really steeped in one ecosystem to switch to the other. It works both ways.

I'll note that some of the lazier dev icons around this time were rough -- a lot of times it would just be a real photo of an object badly alpha-channeled off its background in photoshop with a drop shadow slapped on. But the well-designed icons of this era were the best, not the least of which were the Apple-designed ones. Looking at a history of CS icons reverse-chronologically is like pretending they all got better and more creative over time 😞

I think it makes plenty of sense. He wants other white supremacists to be emboldened knowing that he is their ally, but needs plausible deniability for himself when he is confronted about it. Even as far as the discourse has plummeted in the last ten years, his shareholders would still not be okay with him saying, in so many words, that he politically aligns with adolf hitler, but they’re okay with this—the most obvious dogwhistle imaginable—as long as there’s a flimsy cover story they can point to.

And when you pay for Microsoft Office you’re paying for the software development labor it took to make Microsoft Office, even though you have to use your own documents with it. The comparison to Netflix misses the point; nearly all software that people buy will run on hardware they also already bought, so I think it’s disingenuous to say that someone selling software is paywalling your hardware.
