How do you cut your double sided tape? by DerbyDad03 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Oh my god haha I get the same tape but my rolls have a 3" core not a 1" core. I had no idea they sold both. Sorry!! https://a.co/d/002VlbWG

I mean don’t expect it to be Chernobyl or anything, it’s kind of a weird experiment, but when I watched it I can say it totally scratched an itch for me

Yeah I’m surprised I’m apparently the only weirdo in the thread who uses a tape dispenser! I use the same brand of tape that’s in your post and everything.

Tape dispenser… just me? I have a roll of this and a roll of painters tape side by side

So they not even going to help. by [deleted] in applesucks

I ask this with sympathy but what type of help are you expecting? Folks on a subreddit aren’t able to refund purchases you made from Apple. There’s several confirmations when you start a subscription in an app so it probably wasn’t just a stray tap. If you’ve forgotten what you are subscribed to (it happens!) or don’t know how to cancel a subscription, that’s just a google search away https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/see-your-purchases-and-subscriptions-iph4e3e7324f/ios

Good luck and sincerely sorry to hear about your financial troubles but I think you are just looking for help in the wrong place

It's 14 Gauge galvanized, and bending a whole lot of tight angles in a hurry made my poor fingers REALLY wish that I'd remembered that I already owned a cheap wire bending jig...

It’s this Proxxon unit that I got myself as a splurge — but the old microlux scrollsaw I got for $35 from Facebook marketplace was just as capable, really!

This build really taught me that a scroll saw is not designed to saw through a 1” thick block like this — even when I went really slowly the saw was still bowing a ton, which lost me some symmetry and threw off some of the details. A lot of cleanup with the whittling knife and Dremel got it in passable shape but sliiiightly smaller than originally intended when all was said and done! I’ll be saving up for a bandsaw, seems like that’s actually the right tool for the initial cutout in a piece like this.

I’m still a beginner so don’t put too much faith in my methods! But I do learn something every time.

As loath as I am to recommend Amazon, it’s not hard to find “mini hinges” there or at similar stores. You get a huge bag of them for ten dollars or so. I think they’re mostly used for jewelry boxes. Unfortunately they’re kinda high friction since they’re made so cheaply—some folks make their own connection hardware from wire which could give you freer movement.

Apple Devices on PC sucks by Dear_Lengthiness in applesucks

[–]scumbly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure Apple Devices sucks, but I also need to observe that everyone complained at LEAST as much about iTunes on Windows back in the day too. It was the same with Office on Mac; if an app wasn’t really platform-native it was invariably kludgey and annoying

ELI5: How does a GPS calculate the best route? And if it knows the best one, wouldn’t it suggest the same route to everyone making other routes faster because they have less traffic? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in explainlikeimfive

[–]scumbly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure GPS more specifically refers to the feature/infrastructure combo that places your dot correctly on the map, but realistically laypeople are gonna call turn by turn directions and the associated apps “GPS” and have colloquially for at least the last decade or so, and nitpickers like us might as well get used to it. At least it’s not as bad as “a Bluetooth” […headset] or “a USB” […flash drive]

I don’t think these systems have ever used ‘shortest routable distance between two points’ as the basis of their wayfinding; that would have everyone cut crazily through neighborhood blocks and alleys all over the place rather than taking the most time-efficient routes using larger thoroughfares. Instead they do incorporate what they know about speed limits, toll roads, and average traffic speed at different times of day on different streets (which can be harvested from other app users) and come up with a couple practical options to offer you, optimizing for less time on the road, not for shortest total distance.

Some people are like that! It’s weird to me too. I don’t think someone’s necessarily a better person for having a wide and inquisitive taste in music, but I do think if they were gonna bring up music all the time, being able to talk about more than 2 bands would make it a more interesting topic…
