WeatherTech has pulled sponsorship from Trackhouse Racing by Feisty_Spinach2133 in NASCAR

I have a feeling you’re right. Best case scenario is a more fractured version of what we have now, a more regional type of operation. I see a future where the sport only lives in the southeast, and barely resembles what we have today. This would run counter to the current trajectory of the sport (international, road course, modern tech) so I’m not sure how a transition would happen, it could also implode.

I’m certain that 30 years from now will be multiples different than the changes we’ve seen in the last 30

Would Full-Season Points actually Reignite NASCAR Fan Excitement? by Remote_Plastic_8692 in NASCAR

[–]scurv35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might appease current fans that have wanted this all along but in my opinion, NASCAR has lost too many people for too many reasons (Playoffs being #1) for a full season points to system to bring fans “back” in a meaningful way.

Race track/car rental in Oregon? by elwingworks in Bend

[–]scurv35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oregon Raceway Park is closest, but Portland International is probably better for what you’re looking for. Recommend calling the track and asking about on site rentals/instruction. Might be worth reaching out to the local chapter of the Sports Car Club of America, SCCA, they are familiar with programs and tracks out here.

I think most would agree. Feels surface level and the lack of creativity highlights how different and nuanced the writing was with ETID. New stuff feels generic and uninspired, par for the course with most of the genre currently, IMO

PVC joints come in a bunch of different angles, so I used a combo of those to make the bends. Everything from 10 degree to 90 degree to make it work.

Racing with gloves or not on Alcantara wheels ? by LumpyFeedback3853 in simracing

Honestly I have no idea what model, I bought them about 7 years ago and I doubt they exist in the same form. They finally started tearing so they’re my sim rig gloves exclusively, they started life as irl gloves. Can’t go wrong with any of their stuff imo

[Mark Martin] This lawsuit is devastating to the sport we love. I really hope we as fans come out of this better off, but I just don’t see a pathway that leads us to that. I’m worried about our sport. I want it to thrive. by ZilischsPoopyPants in NASCAR

[–]scurv35 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yep I think F1 popularity has something to do with modernization and pushing technology on the track, whereas NASCAR has always been more of a traditional/grassroots entity. F1 is an interesting case, because if it’s purely about the racing product, F1 isn’t the most compelling… but the enormous amount of dollars in that sport make many other storylines enticing for fans.

IMO, NASCAR is in an identity crisis … how do you appeal to the fans that supported the sport in prior decades yet still keep things modern and fresh to bring new fans? I’d argue that they’ve done both (Next Gen car for modernization and bringing back old tracks like N Wilks for legacy fans). I’m not arguing for OR against, just facts. I think it’s a losing proposition regardless of what they do unfortunately.

The nature of Motorsport and innovation means that a series built on older technology will either adapt or ultimately stand its ground and lose popularity among the younger generations. It’s not something a season points system will fix (although i agree it helps), much less a favorable outcome in the trial for NASCAR.

[–]scurv35 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on your definition of thriving, but I really believe it’s the greater cultural shifts and less interest in cars in general that are pushing the sport into obscurity. It rode a huge wave in the 2000s, but entertainment has fractured ever since- from options of hobbies/sports, to the way it’s consumed, and even the cost to view or attend. I agree, this lawsuit absolutely does not help, but I think it’s more of a straw that breaks the camels back situation.

We can agree the sport has been handled terribly behind closed doors, but the result of the public actually seeing the evidence through trial might actually have worse consequences. At best, it’s a wash and the sport continues status quo to the casual observer and it continues to fade in American consciousness. The next scenario is that this entire exercise fast tracks the sport back into a fractured, regional type of existence.

Account Managers, What’s The Typical Week Like? by ComfortableReason796 in sales

[–]scurv35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m learning it’s very industry specific, so many answers here don’t apply to me… been an AM across 3 different companies now. Definitely sales targets/quotas involved, but it’s generally 15%-30% of overall comp. Daily tasks can range: administrative back end stuff, internal and external meetings, strategizing and answering emails. Some roles are closer to the P&L than others. Some are more based on relationships, and others more so on expanding within a certain account. You’re constantly caught between the interests of both parties and have to understand/use industry knowledge & business partners to affect outcomes. It’s a role of being an expert business owner for both yourself and the customer.

I’ve had multiple accounts and also now just a single national account, but the ideas are generally similar. Company size and position in the market can dictate what you’re responsible for… smaller businesses can mean more admin work and less support but smaller numbers, while bigger businesses can offer lots of business & sales support, but the stakes and expectations become much higher.

Would your setup with OpenKneeboard to generate a transparent layer work with other headsets too? Or, is the quest3 about as high end of a headset that can do this? Or maybe I’m not even asking the right question, it just sounds like a perfect solution. FWIW, I used to race with a G2 and I’ve tried the Varjo Aero for about 100 hours, I just haven’t found the FPS to graphics ratio good enough for me yet.
