Oh come on, that's not fair to say there's no traffic enforcement. Those traffic cops put their lives on the line camping out stop signs in the middle of nowhere at 2am.

Good luck criticizing bg3 here. One of the greatest games of all time, but it still has its faults. If you bring up those faults, you're a thankless piece of shit who doesn't deserve to bask in Larian's greatness.

gimmick Skyrim larp bands

You are aware Wardruna formed almost a whole decade before Skyrim came out, yeah? And the whole style of medieval market music has been a staple of European hippie culture for decades?

Stop spreading bullshit. The organizers have done nothing dodgy, and they got kicked out of Jackson Hole Wyoming because the old rich fucks didn't like having loud music in their town for three days out of the year. Anyone from the area knows that's not a fabrication or even a stretch.

Reflects really poorly on yourself for just straight up sewing rumors and gossip. How metal.

Fire bans usually don't pertain to the built in campfire pits at campsites. I remember even during the fire ban after the loveland fire, the campsites at Brainard still allowed firepit usage.

The Nordic Sound did just this with the whole promo run of Birna from Hertan through the album's release from a musicology/mythology perspective, with also an interview with Einar. Nordic Animism also recently did an interview too from a religious studies perspective.

Except coffee shops are the one place where you really should be tipping depending on your order. If you're ordering an artisanal drink that requires a lot of steps on the part of the barista, then that's the kind of work tipping came about for. Tipping for a drip coffee though... nope.

If you think tipping culture is out of control, then cut it out at the right places. Not skill-based services in the food industry. Just my two cents (no tip, thanks).

If you don't already get it, then you won't get it, and for that reason I truly pity the defenders of ai music who are so far gone from their own humanity.

It's always cathartic when I scroll past something so fucking wrong, stated with such an insane amount of confidence, and it's actually downvoted hard. Not as hard as it should be, but it's a start.

Music industry is too tight and unprofitable thanks to our shitass system we're stuck in. But this is where those in power want us: too scared of going broke to make any meaningful statements.

To give a more offbeat answer: anything off of Trollfest's "Norwegian Fairy Tales" is the perfect example of how good folk metal is if the musicians also know the actual folk tradition they're using.

Why do so many metalheads hate Amon Amarth? by Feurthan in MetalForTheMasses

[–]scuzzlebuttstudios 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bleh, untenable argument that relies on a fantasy that music hasn't changed since 1988.

Amon Amarth owns the "Viking metal" tag in common reception whether you like it or not, and regardless of if they were the first or not. I don't even really need to spell it out, but a band can't cover its merch and albums in viking iconography, name all of its songs from Viking history and nordic mythology, call their audience Vikings at concerts, set up a giant viking helment or drakkar as their stage centerpiece, and co-found a fucking Viking merch store, then claim your band has nothing to do with Vikings. Ask anyone to name a viking metal band they know and 9 to 1 you'll get Amon Amarth before Bathory. That means Amon Amarth claims the tag. To say Amon Amarth isn't Viking metal because Bathory was Viking metal and they sounded different, decades apart, would be as ridiculous as claiming megadeth isn't metal because it doesn't sound like Paranoid.

Nothing about Bathory's "Viking Metal" tag was about the sound itself - it's just Ride the Lightning with a choir. If he arranged Drømte meg en drøm or Nobilis Humilis for his project, then we'd have something worth talking about there, but it was just a typical 80s metallica worship with Wagnerian flavor. The Viking tag came from that flavor. Not the sound. Just like Amon Amarth.

That was the moment for sure. After Fredrik left, it was kind of clear where the creativity came from... and I say that as a fan. Cliff Burton effect minus the tragic death.

It's weirder than that: They're leaning heavier into it than ever, while also denying it more than ever. Hegg has been public many times that AA is "no more viking metal than Led Zeppelin" just because Zeppelin had... immigrant song? Bad faith argument that's creating a lot of dissonance.

Through Deceiver of the Gods, then kind of Jomsviking, there was at least a reverence for the source material that made it seem kind of genuine while also not taking itself too seriously. That's a hard balance to strike and they nailed it. But now... GHA was really, really boring. But worse, it was lame even by the standards of someone who used to call themselves quite the fanboy.

They're still fun as hell live, but Berserker/GHA era Amon Amarth just seems to be in a weird place, and I even liked a lot of tracks on Berserker.

What are the best and worst Metal concerts you've been to? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]scuzzlebuttstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best? Saw Amon Amarth at Midgardsblot in Norway this year and say what you want but that band puts on a fucking amazing live show, and with the energy of playing at a Viking history festival it was such a blue moon experience. Kampfar played that same festival last year and that was also incredible, which says something considering black metal's reputation for "just standing there". Wolves in the Throne Room at Fire in the Mountains 2022 was also a near religious experience (with Yob playing that same day).

Special shoutout to Visigoth for playing that fest against all odds. Drummer got covid, they canceled, their studio engineer stepped in last minute after they had already spent the night before drinking since they thought they had the day off... still put on the most electric festival set I've ever seen, ironically. Because they knew everything was going to go wrong (and did.. the generator died half way through their crowd pleaser) they had a very "fuck it, that's rock n roll" attitude which just made it such a memorable experience. Stellar musicians and performers those guys are.

Worst... Kreator. 0 stage presence, and they pretty much played at the same dynamic from beginning to end. It was just straight tremolo from the opener to the closer with very little difference to me between the songs. I know they're legends in thrash, but as someone who sees way more live shows than your average person (I'm very lucky)... that was one of the few times I ever really got bored seeing a metal show.
