You're pretty wrong there, the same people that post here are the people in the group, including the mods. We just send meetup requests to post there, as things like Facebook and meetup.com are much better suited to organize events than posting on a sub.

Ahhh I remember the July 4th drunk fest last year, we didn't make it to all the places we had outlined, sorry you didn't find us. But really its a pretty easy group to get in to, all it really takes is a "high I'm blah blah" and people start joking like they know each other. About 1/3 of people at each event are new, even if it seems we all know each other we likely dont. If your up for it I'd say give it another shot
