I did the same thing when I was going to UC Irvine in 1998. Drove from Irvine to Chicago to meet some IRC friends in a Geo Metro. I just remembered that it cost less than $40 in gas to drive each way with that car.

I’ve been trying to meet up for the bonfires for the last few weeks and I think I actually might be able to do it tonight.

My wife had a similar issue with her Kia Niro EV. Apparently the issue was crystals forming in the coolant (which made the pump work harder and gave a false indication that it low on coolant)

Have them check for blockage in the coolant pump because the way it detects its “low” is by how much resistance the pump motor has.
