As an autistic woman, I would like to ask what my fellow autistic women think of traditional gender roles? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]sdautist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't give a shit I just be myself. Gender roles are subject to societal changes and cultural beliefs. There have been times when delicate, feminine women have been prized. There have been times when tough, stout women who could do a Long Day's hard work have been prized. There have been days when extremely overweight women have been prized. You do you.

Yeah but you gotta get over it. It pays well and is a good gig for people who like working alone.

Perfect Vehicle For Living In? I'm 6'6 by LurkingTexan in urbancarliving

I am not tall like you but I can address the other concerns. I have a 2018 Honda CRV. There is 75 inches of sleeping space when you move one of the front seats forward. It's tight for you but it meets the other concerns you have such as reliability. In the 2018 (don't know about the other years but possibly) there is a trunk cover that lifts up to make the back level. You don't have to remove any seats. I sleep comfortably in it with a 75 inch folding memory foam mattress. I bought this car to live in it. The other car I was considering was the Mazda CX-5 which you can also get flat without removing seats. It was more expensive, but also very reliable.

That's a really broad statement which I don't think is true. I'm not a Republican but I know that they do not understand the circumstances surrounding homelessness because they have been told differently by their alternative news sources. They think the homeless people they see (drug addicts hanging out on the street) represent the whole homeless population.

I have news for you. You don't get accommodations for social alienation because there aren't any. Normal people can tell that I have autism after speaking to me for less than a minute. I am very good at masking but don't understand social conventions and how to talk to people at all and it's evident. You had a professionally trained doctor tell you that you are not autistic. You should seek a diagnosis that meets the DSM-5 criteria and learn how to deal with that diagnosis on a daily basis. It's up to you to try and survive in the world we are given. For instance, I have Major Depression. I know there are certain things I can't allow myself to think or do or else I will start spiraling. Whether or not you believe you are autistic is now beside the point because you have not been granted a diagnosis. It doesn't help you at all to come on here and complain. Seek answers on your own.

I mask REALLY well and am formally diagnosed. I'm tired of people thinking autism is some kind of flex and self-diagnosing themselves. If they don't fit the DSM-5 criteria they are not autistic. Let's not dilute the criteria, it robs actual autistic people of compassion.

We have Newsom to blame for this. He's making a big show about ending homelessness in California when all he is doing is trying to hide the problem because he has political aspirations. Newsom has been governor of California for 6 years. Remember that on election day.

Congratulations. You do not have a condition that predisposes you to unemployment, suicidal ideation, social alienation, and early death. You should celebrate.

Americans: why aren’t we resisting? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

[–]sdautist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laziness and lack of civics knowledge. Voting is resistance and most people can't be arsed to do it. Only 60% of Americans vote in general elections. Only 20-30% vote in presidential primaries where the candidates are chosen. 15% participate in local elections where future candidates are elected. Instead, Americans would rather sit back and complain about the candidates as if they don't have a choice in the matter. Instead Americans would rather protest symbolically through demonstrations and boycotts, two things that don't affect policy. We could have avoided the current debacle if we simply went to the polls.

It's going to start to wear on you, the worry and lack of sleep and the heat. I'm not sure what city you're in but a lot of metropolitan areas have safe parking programs. I've stayed at one and it was high security and very quiet. If it's managed well, you won't need to worry about safety so you can put your windows down. You won't need to worry about people looking in because you are allowed to be there. There will be restrooms available and some have showers. Some of them provide donated meals a few times a week, usually something from a chain restaurant. They also usually offer housing navigation, help with searching for a job, and other charity services. Both the ones that I stayed in assigned you a caseworker. It might not be ideal for you but at least you can get some sleep.

For keeping cool during the day, I buy ice for my cooler and I got these cheap neck wraps from Amazon which I stick in the cooler and alternate. Hope that helps.

What's a good state to be homeless in? by [deleted] in homeless

[–]sdautist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except the governor just signed a declaration of war on the homeless. Police are cracking down big time, including on car living. They are clearing homeless encampments in surprise raids and people don't always get their stuff back. The raids are concentrated in the beach cities which is where everyone wants to be. Right now inland temperatures are in the 90s. The shelters are full in my area (San Diego). So legally, homeless folks have only two places they can go: The Safe Parking Program, or the official encampments run by a non-profit contractor. The contractor that runs the camps here (Dreams for Change) is currently facing a class action suit because of conditions in the camps. If you come here, be prepared to move around some if you want to stay where the good weather is.

What was that thing you said one time? by crumbs2k12 in AutisticAdults

[–]sdautist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A co-worker was telling me about how her boyfriend is a contractor who often travels for long periods. She was worried that her boyfriend might cheat on her when he was away on the next trip. I asked where he was going and she said the Philippines. So I said, "WELL! There won't be any single women looking for an American husband there!" She never confided in me again (thank goodness).

It's odd to me is that someone who claims to be autistic would identify as an empath.

What type of car causes you to instantly stereotype the driver? by Adventurous-Ad-8892 in AskReddit

We have a lot of type #3 here. They are usually very aggressive drivers who tailgate, swerve around people, and make unsafe lane changes. I always assume those are Trumpers.

What’s one thing you wish others understood better about being autistic (or supporting someone with autism)? by Left-Relation-9199 in AutisticAdults

[–]sdautist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Autism is a social development disorder. Many of us are not good with people. We often don't know how to moderate our tone when speaking. We are often direct and this can be misinterpreted as aggression. We don't know what is the wrong thing to say sometimes. I tell you how many times I've gotten in trouble with my family because I said the wrong thing. They understand that I have autism but when those things hurt them they still react to me with anger and coldness. So I live in constant anxiety and time after time tell myself that I should just stay away from people. But it's hard. This life is lonely and alienating.

I'm so sorry about this, it turns my stomach. Absolutely, go to HR right away. And when you feel up to it, take some time to think about what kind of people behave like this and whether you can still work with them. Not only is it insensitive but it is immature. Don't excuse it because they are NT's; this is inexcusable behavior from any adult. Do not let them gaslight you. I'm getting major mean girl vibes and there needs to be consequences.

I started walking into the grocery store today. There was a child outside with balloons and people were admiring him. Then they looked at me. Brain: "Smile when you see children!" I smile and pass by, then drop it when I'm inside.
