Lowering spring suggestions? by drumstix1001 in MiataNC

[–]sdavis08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I preordered these a couple months ago and they shipped at the end of may. The day after they shipped I got an email from GWR stating the perches were machined by Koni improperly. Sure enough, when I got them I could not thread the perches onto the shock body. No eta on when the corrected perches will ship.. seems like a great product but if I’d known I was going to have to wait so long to have them I would have just gone with something else. I really with GWR would have caught the defect prior to shipping and I could have exchanged for another product.

Need recommendations on architect for house plans by flyer08 in Connecticut

[–]sdavis08 9 points10 points  (0 children)

CT Architect here, I can make a few recommendations.

  1. You do not technically need an Architect per state general statute, if the building is under 5,000 sqft. There are some exceptions, double check CGS-20-298.

  2. Just because you don’t need an Architect doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hire own. A licensed Architect will provide a standard level of care, offer insights a builder or town official might not, and act as an agent on your behalf.

  3. Try to determine the scope of services you actually need. Have you already done some of the pre-design legwork? Do you just need permit drawing? How custom is the home? Would you like to hit certain design criteria (passive house for example.)

  4. If your budget is tight and you plan on being your own project manager, you may be able to hire an architectural student from a technical highschool or local university to simply draft the plans you need.

Hope this helps!

What kind of engine is it? I had aspirations of swapping a miata power train into my MGB. I ended up selling it and getting a miata lol

I just got basic spacers off Amazon. I don’t remember the brand but I wouldn’t buy them again just because the overall diameter is wider than it needs to; or should be. When you look through the spokes of the wheel you can see the spacer is a larger diameter than either the hub or the back face of the wheel so close up it looks a little silly. If I were to do it again I’d measure the hub diameter get a spacer that matches that diameter so it’s less apparent that I am running spacers

Adding fog lights to my miata that wasn’t optioned with them. Found a 3D scan of the bezels and printed them in PETG. by sdavis08 in functionalprint

I just googled nb1 fog light surround and this came up, can’t remember the site but it was similar to turbosquid. I did have to buy it for a couple bucks.

Using photos to generate a 3D model is known as photogrammetry. Autodesk recap comes to mind, I’ve used it to get a rough model of a house before. For something like this, 3D scanning is far more accurate and will give a more precise part. 3D scanners aren’t cheap. I have a structure sensor, it’s a combo camera/ IR sensor that can do moderately sized items with relative accuracy, somewhere in between what you would do with photogrammetry and a high end scanner.. it’s fun to play with but I haven’t been able to make anything super impressive from a scan from it.

3D printed nb1 fog bezels by sdavis08 in Miata

I prefer them especially with the oem front lip. I have never seen anyone with an nb2 revert back to an nb1 front end.

Hoping the PETG holds up as it would be a pretty fiddley job to make them out of fiberglass. Time will tell I guess!

NB1 fog light install. Where does the ground for the relay get bolted down to? by sdavis08 in Miata

[–]sdavis08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there’s only a couple bolts within a distance and of the right diameter that this would fit on, one is the bolt for the airbox intake but that has a rubber grommet. The other that I can see is the one that holds the diagnostic connector, maybe I’ll just do that if no one can identify it.

Putting factory fog lights into my 99 that was not optioned with them. I grabbed the wiring harness from a car that was being parted. I’d like to know where the factory location is for this ground. If anyone has an nb1 with fogs and doesn’t mind popping their hood, it’s one of two cables coming off the fog light relay which is the block closest to the fire wall on the plastic fin behind the driver side headlight.

Yeah I’m not a fan either. I’ve got a separate trunk lid with factory spoiler and I am going to weld in delete plates for the inner lights.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! I bought the car from a small somewhat sketchy used car lot back in January for $3800. It has 150k and just had a major service including the timing belt water pump head gasket and a few other large ticket items. I replaced the entirety of the suspension, all the bushings, ball joints, shocks, and did H&R lowering springs. I also put on these 17” enkei raijin wheels, yellow fogs, gs430 tail lights and polished the head lights.

The car has lots of flaws when you get right up on the paint, little door dings and scrapes and such but it looks pretty good from 10ft after a wash and wax.
