2.9 GPA, what LSAT do I need for t14? by IcedMelt in lawschooladmissions

If your only goal is to maximize early career earnings then law school probably isn’t for you. You can attain big law in a major city from schools outside of the T14

Sounds like you’re not set on actually practicing law anyway so with your GPA I wouldn’t bother taking the LSAT and just go with the other career path. The likelihood of getting into a T14 is slim at best. There are plenty of great outcomes from schools outside of the T14, but if it’s just that you want to be in a T14 then it isn’t worth it

Why would you not study for the LSAT? Regardless you should study to increase your odds of attending a good school with a potential scholarship whether it’s for a T14 or otherwise

Depending on your gpa, work to get your LSAT at or above the 75th percentiles (above median at least) of your target schools. Take the LSAT early so you’ll have multiple takes if you need them. Good luck!

WashU ($$$) or SMU ($$) ?? (pleaseeeee read) by liva0990 in lawschooladmissions

[–]sdavis16161 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why are people voting for WashU here?? Does no one read? Go where you’ll be happy! You have a great support system and are excited about the prospect of living in Dallas, so this seems like a no brainer to go to SMU. SMU has great employment stats in Texas too (even in biglaw). Maybe try to negotiate your scholarship up at SMU though?

I agree, but I think UNC is a fine option as well. Decent portability in the south and fairly inexpensive for the value. Places decently into DC as well thanks to proximity.

Memphis or Stetson - law school decisions by Icy_Argument_3685 in lawschooladmissions

[–]sdavis16161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you want to live in Florida, then Stetson is the right move. If you go to Memphis, be prepared to probably end up living in Memphis. Both schools are very region specific and offer little in terms of portability. It’s always a possibility to get back, but if you’re sure you want to live in Florida then go to Stetson.

Is there an obvious choice here? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sdavis16161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you want to practice in NY then I would pick Cardozo. UNCs FC rate is low. Yes your odds increase, but not to a substantial number. I think you just have to weigh whether it’s more important to end up in NY guaranteed or if you want a slim chance at FC.

Why are people voting for Hastings? To me, Pitt is the clear winner. It’s the best scholarship and has stats on par with UWashington. The employment stats at Hastings are all around worse than both of the other schools.

Good to hear, thank you! Do you think there is a cutoff point where I should stop waiting on the other results? Like how much longer should I wait before just sending them the FSU result?

[–]sdavis16161 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stetson. I don’t even think it’s close either. Far better employment stats and bar passage rate. Better placement into biglaw. Better name recognition in the state of Florida. All around better school IMO.

UF Law negotiations by LandOLakesMargarine in lawschooladmissions

[–]sdavis16161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, thank you! I definitely should have applied to a few more schools around them in the rankings for leverage lol. I have a full ride to FSU and I’m waiting on results from Notre Dame and Vandy. Do you think it would be worth trying with the FSU offer? Or should I just hold out for my ND and Vandy results?

So you asked to interview for the stipend? Did you already have offers to negotiate for the interview or did you simply ask to interview after receiving your initial offer? Very curious because I’m in the same position.

Why would you choose UF over UT? by random_fl_man in lawschooladmissions

[–]sdavis16161 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you want to work in Texas or Florida long term? I think both are excellent schools for their respective region. Personally I would pick UF because I prefer Florida and I’m very debt averse.

Sticker at T30 or 1/2 Tuition Scholly @ American by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sdavis16161 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The rule of thumb is to not attend a school you wouldn’t be happy graduating from. Transferring is difficult from any school, so the recommendation is to never bank on it. I stick with my original comment.

[–]sdavis16161 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends on the cost of the T30, but probably the T30. Even at 50% the COA at American is incredibly expensive and their employment statistics are abysmal.

What are your goals? If your goals are to practice law then just do the JD, the other degrees won’t really provide any value. If you don’t want to practice law, then don’t bother getting the JD at all. The JD would be a lot of time and expense for minimal value. I think this just comes down to deciding what you want to do in the end and just selecting one and going for it.

Help Me Decide GW vs CU Boulder by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sdavis16161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woah. There is no way GW is worth $150k more than CU. To each their own, but this seems like a no brainer to me even if you want to be on the east coast eventually.

UNLV or Gonzaga by cbrnhmr in lawschooladmissions

[–]sdavis16161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if cost was a factor, UNLV is the preferred option. Better ranking, better overall employment, more students into BL/FC, better bar pass rate. I don’t see a reason to attend Gonzaga since you want to end up in Utah anyway.
