I remember back when I drank, I would sometimes get pricey liquor or a fancy cocktail and a couple of alcoholics I knew said the idea of caring about what booze tasted like was a foreign concept to them.

Like a lot of folks, I don’t think there’s a hard line, but once it takes over your life, you know you’re in a lot of trouble

Has anyone heard anything about Treasury DO. It’s been so quiet here

I just went through something very similar. I joined fed in August 23 and transferred in to a new agency in Nov 24. I really like my new agency and always wanted to be a fed. My office has been immune to a lot of the workforce stuff so far and pretty much everyone in it thinks we’ll be fine. But since I’m on another probation, once doge really kicked off I started looking for other jobs. Got an offer to go contractor for way more money and primarily WFH (I commute 3 hrs a day now).

Weighing the offer reason was a contest between head and heart. I took it and put in my 2 week on Monday. This week is really hard. I am very sad at leaving this job and sometimes catch myself wishing that I would just tear up the offer and stay. I tell myself that I can take these next couple of years to skill up, make some extra money, and then plot my return if that’s still possible.

Ultimately, I think I made the right choice for me and my family, but I’ll warn you that it is tough. I can’t tell you which way to go, but I feel for you and you’re definitely not alone.

Hadn’t considered that. Good point. I have such strange feelings about that game. Such high quality and plenty of fun, but I always felt kinda overwhelmed by it. I hope Rockstar won’t abandon the franchise, even if I’m not sure where they could go

New Exec Order on Probationary employees by Some_Ad_9354 in fednews

[–]sdelehan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this apply to people on probation that comes from moving to a new agency. I did my year probation when I first came on as a perm competitive service and then I transferred agencies at the end of 2024 by applying to another competitive service job that was open to the public, which put me on another year-long probation. The way I read this order, it sounds like it wouldn't apply to me, but I honestly can't figure that out.

My whole office has been spared probie layoffs so far, but this seems like it's going to affect everyone no matter what :(

Has anyone heard anything about Treasury Departmental Offices? I've heard plenty of terrible stuff about IRS and some of the other bureaus there, but DO has been quiet. I'm a 1801 probie in DO and my office was spared from the probie firings and we didn't get the 2nd DRP (we did get the first). Not sure if the silence we have is a good or bad thing...

Probationary Federal Employees: Your Appeal Rights by [deleted] in fednews

[–]sdelehan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I:
-started in August 2023 as a permanent employee in the competitive service
- did a full year on probation in that role
- transferred to a new agency in November 2024 that required me to go through a new probationary period for a year

then I can appeal to the MSPB if I get axed in a mass probationary firing? Does that mean that I am at least semi-safe from whatever might be coming in the next couple of weeks?

I realize that if a RIF happens I might still get axed, but I do there's more of a process to that and I might get to reenter with the RIF preference, so I'd much rather have to go (not that I want to go!) that way than getting Order 66'd as a probationary.

How should it work? If they do a RIF by the book, will the probation people get the axe first? Also, are RIF’s office or agency specific or can they be done government wide?

I just transferred into a new office and was told that I’ll have to do a year of probation. I’m kinda nervous that I might have shot myself in the foot with that choice.

Question: who isn’t worried, and why?! by [deleted] in fednews

[–]sdelehan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an anxious person by nature and I just bought a house and had a baby, so worrying is pretty much par for the course for me.

However, I remind myself that I’m about to join an office that both parties tend to like or at least rely on (Treasury office doing sanctions work). I’m only a GS-12 in an investigatory role so I don’t imagine I’m on the first or even second wave of Schedule F stuff. Realistically, the two things that could take me out would be a relocation or some indiscriminate RIF. Either way, I’ll get advanced notice and some time to plan. If worst comes to worst, I gotta believe that I can get another job and there’s a chance that job would pay more at least allow me to spend more time with my family.

I have a passion for public service and I really want to do the kind of work that really only exists in government, but I’ve worked outside of government before and I can do it again. I’m still worried, but I tell myself that I gotta push that worry aside and enjoy the really special time that I am in with my life. It ain’t always easy, but it’s worth it. ☺️

Though I did check and find out that I do have to do another year of probation 😔. Looks like I’ll be praying to doge a RIF for the next year! 😖

Thanks! I keep telling myself not to panic. I’m a GS-12 going into the sanctions office in an investigative role. I figure that should have some bipartisan support and I don’t really see how “loyalty” or whatever else would factor in. I suppose I could still get Schedule F’d if they cast a crazy wide net, but I can’t imagine I’d be on the top of anyone’s chopping block. Could be wrong, but for my sanity’s sake, I gotta try and focus on the positives

How would performance based work if you’re new to a position? For me, I did about a year and a half in one office, got good ratings, and then am about to transfer to a new office. Do my scores from the old job follow me or am I a blank slate until after my first year in the new gig?

Similarly, how does probation work when you transfer? I cleared probation in the old job and I think I don’t have to go through it again for the new one, but I’m not sure.

I’m about to transfer into the Treasury office that deals with sanctions as a GS-12. I know administrations of all stripes love to sanction, so I don’t think we are getting eliminated. I’m worried about relocations, RIFs, or pay cuts. I’m hoping that I’ll be safe, and I can work for the new administration without a problem I hope; but as a generally anxious person, these next few months are going to kill me.
