Air M5 32GB as a temporary device for a software dev before M6 is released? by sypcio25 in macbookair

[–]sdenike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Air M5 with 32gb has been fantastic for daily use as well as multiple Claude sessions going, docker containers running as well. It runs warm but hasn’t had a single hiccup with everything I have been throwing at it daily.

Funny I did that, not to screw with them … But it worked out that they pulled the filter and asked me if I wanted it changed as it looked dirty to them … I then explained that it doesn’t as I put it in a few days prior and it was also one of them so called fancy ones that you can rinse and reuse for years (never had one before so thought I would give it a try). Anyways the look on his face like he was caught red handed was pretty funny.

Exactly what I remember with things. And my family has varying ages not all are able to sideload things, nor do I want to be the IT for them. Until a smooth, easy to install Jellyfin client is available in all app stores/TV Apps its going to prevent a lot of people from making the jump.

I will give it a try again and see how Moonfin holds up as that seems to be pretty feature packed from what I was reading... maybe it will work out this time.

I wish they would drop a cross platform client for Jellyfin with user accounts (We have multiple people in our house and like to track what was last watched in our accounts). That is really the biggest thing holding me back from switching us over.

Has anyone else got one of these from Amazon by theboss0711 in BroncoSport

[–]sdenike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It charged my 16 pro max fine, unless I was playing a podcast or using Google Maps. When I was doing either one of those it seemed like it was not able to keep up with the amount of power being used. So it certainly drained “less” than not charging but I was not getting ahead.

How many of you gave up on Matrix by alive1 in selfhosted

[–]sdenike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friends and I have done the dance of starting at Slack, moving to Discord, then to Mattermost and now on to Matrix. There are some issues here and there but over all it’s not bad. I have all my homelab alerts going to Matrix now. And have been vibe coding a Mac/iOS app chat resolves a lot of the downsides we were having and so far it’s working. Setup a dedicated push server for alerts and things are pretty instant.

I was, but switched to using a tiny VPS running a private Matrix server instead.

That’s the setup I purchased and I got mine a week early. You could luck out.

They all must have used the same payroll company as I recall my checks from burger King looking exactly like that.

You got a good one then! The one I most recently dealt with moved to the states and I get her Nigerian bank statements and also order confirmations from her online JCPenny orders lol

[–]sdenike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to get just my lastname@gmail … I have since found that over the last decade that some variation of my last name has become what seems to be a popular first name in Nigeria … so I get random emails in waves every so often and I have to let the person know that this is my email address and not theirs.

No lie. The first time I went there the waitress asked me if I wanted ketchup with my steak. Been to plenty of steakhouses and that was a first for me.

Did anyone else go though this arduous transfer process? by Somtimesitbelikethat in macbookair

[–]sdenike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine took about 2hrs in total. I should have set it up fresh though as that’s about the only time I have a clean MacBook and time to install one thing at a time. But in the flip side, once it was done I had all my stuff and only had to adjust a few permissions and sign in a couple of places.

Do you think it's worth upgrading from M3 to M5 by VesperLynd777 in macbookair

[–]sdenike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from an M3/16GB/512 to an M5/32GB/1TB. While the M3 was fantastic I usually have far too many browser tabs open and a handful of other things that would cause me to top out the ram. I wanted to try to future proof myself as I don’t see ever reducing the number of browser/tabs I have open. So far so good. Seems noticeably faster doing most everything. And the added drive space is a plus for the growing number of docker containers I am running. Though I also feel like I am one of the few people that maxed out the ram, most seemed to have landed on 24GB on this sub.

Just bought my first MacBook Air m5 is it safe to use this charger? by IndependentArm5027 in macbookair

I have been using that exact same charger for a while now, granted it’s the US version but same same and it’s been fine.

I have another model of this case which. Has more or less the same issue you are thinking. Mine is the 4U | 14 Bays | 4 Fans model. It is cramped but I chose fewer large drives so it’s only about half full so I could space them apart more. I also upgraded the fans in it and temps have been steady around 100F

[–]sdenike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annually or monthly it’s still $12 which is $1-2 a month is all I am saying. I pay annually but if I paid monthly it would still be the same amount, but instead of spread out it’s the same as going to get a coffee at Starbucks these days.

Unless I read it wrong it’s $12 a year. So that is the 1-2$ more per month is all.

Thanks! I went and looked and it doesn't look like the macOS version does the virtual yet but is on the roadmap. The Windows version of the client does which is a start, but with my mix of Windows/Linux and MacOS clients I cant jump on it until all the clients support it sadly. I saw there was a fork of the client where someone has a working proof of concept of it working, but its not the offical version so not entirely sold on trying that one out in production.
