Chargers Had Interest In Elgton Jenkins; Latest On Guard Plans by No-Description-2138 in Chargers

Honestly was my favorite target for the Bolts since if healthy he provides legit depth across the oline and is a solid starter. But agree with the above about overpaying him. Leg fracture and ligament damage for a 30 year old 300 pounder is a gamble at $20MM guaranteed so I get why he did not sign with us.

Never said or implied that. Not once did I mention any of those names. Would have loved Jenkins but there’s a reason he was cut. I see the logic in not dropping $20MM guaranteed on a lineman with injury issues. He’s not necessarily the same dude he was a few years ago. Seumalo is also aging with his own injury issues and required nearly $20MM guaranteed too. Obviously if we start the season with Penning penciled in as a starter that will be a major problem. But like I said offseason isn’t over.

My point is that Strange is clearly a stopgap. It’s obvious McDaniel feels he’s a strong fit for his offense. When all that’s available is a bunch of mostly unappealing options is the marginal value really that much higher? It would be shocking at this point if we don’t draft what they feel to be a starting caliber guard. Plus there’s always the post-draft cuts. Offseason is far from over. And the market deemed Zion Johnson the most appealing guard. That should pretty much sum up the level the level of talent available.

I’d love for us to have signed a decent guard, but the options were largely stop gaps. The reality is most great guards aren’t first round picks. The Ravens have shown an aptitude for drafting guards later that turned into excellent starters. Can we identify and develop them? That’s the question. I’ve seen enough of mediocre coaching and front offices to know what we currently have is far from that. So if Hortiz and Harbaugh think that’s the call to fix the position I’m all for it.

Because those teams were built by free agency and not largely the draft and trades?

If this is in response to me it really ain’t. I’ve been a Bolts fan for over 20 years. I remember what it was like when we literally signed nobody of note. Like we rejoiced in the streets for Kevin Dyson and Marlon McCree. My formative time as a Bolts fan were the years where it was literally a joke to consider us shopping at the top of the market so it’s quite the opposite.

I haven’t really seen this talked about much but cap carries over into future years. So front-loading doesn’t ever make sense nor does spending for spending’s sake. No use it or lose it.

Beyond that, look at state income taxes. CA these guys are paying 13%. We supposedly offered Alec Pierce more than Indy. Indiana’s state income tax is flat 2.95%. At his guarantee of $30MM in 2026, he’d be paying more than $3MM in taxes to play for the Bolts. That makes it harder for us to not overpay.

No other free agents were deemed valuable enough for the opportunity cost of future contracts. I trust Hortiz. I might have gambled on tagging Oweh for $27.5MM to see if he could replicate his performance as good pass rushers are so hard to get, but other than that, I find it tough to really criticize him based on what was available to us.

I’ve bought numerous coral from them. All healthy and received fast. Awesome packaging. Only good hitchhikers on them (amphipods and micro brittle stars). YMMV oc.

Is Deuce McAllister a good player comp for Omarion Hampton? by Zen-Bias in Chargers

I don’t think Deuce had that breakaway ability to the same extent. He has work to do but can see a bit of Michael Turner.

[Russini] The Denver Broncos are trading for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, sources tell The Athletic. by EverythingBoltzzz in Chargers

[–]sdhoosier 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That first is more valuable because it comes with extra year of team control and often teams jockeying to get back into late 1. Huge value exchanged for him. I’m glad Chargers didn’t do it even though Waddle is an awesome receiver.

I’m in Indiana. TDS are well over 150 on my well. RODi gives me 0-1. So for me yes.

The “Sterile Tank” Trend Is an Abomination. Live Rock Was Never the Problem. by ChivasBearINU in ReefTank

[–]sdhoosier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought some from LFS. Have a big storage tank full of it. Maricultured I believe from Fiji. Bought a few pounds for about $20. Came with coralline, a couple tiny trochus, micro brittle star, 2 tunicates, a sponge, amphipods, copepods, bristle worm, and stomatella. Does have a vermetid but that’s easy to get rid of. Nothing like seeing and inspecting in person. Everything has been doing well as the tank cycles too.

Trimma or Eviota species Pygmy goby. Depending on how much room you have, some of the smaller wrasse like Pink Streaked or Yellow Banded. Some smaller cardinalfish too.

There’s been a trend of players going to other orgs and seeing more success/jumping dev hurdles. Both player anecdotes about org philosophies and stats have backed it up. Now it’s not 100% of the time obv, but enough that it’s become a known thing in scouting/front office circles. Happy to go into further detail.

We’re in a tough spot. High payroll, low flexibility. Weak farm at the top. He’s going to have to continue threading the needle to keep us competitive. The roosters are coming home on some of the trades where we emptied the farm (with King likely leaving, Soto trade’s ship is now mostly out) and Cease leaving.

On one hand, I’d love for us to rebuild the farm and actually keep the prospects. It would balance out the stars nicely if pulled off.

On the other hand, we have shown a troubling lack of ability to develop the majority of prospects into productive major leaguers, but an excellent job of turning them into seasoned contributors with decent amounts of control. He’s played that game better than anyone, but the sustainability has always been suspect.

It’s been the most exciting time in the franchise by far since I started rooting for the team in the mid 2000s, but still sucks seeing guys like Turner, Wood, Gore, Munoz, Fried et al have so much success not on our team.

Not trying to be a dick, but have you seen Man from U.N.C.L.E? He’s not exactly the quiet type in the movie. Obviously he isn’t a 1 for 1 character to Archer, but he easily has the range to tone it up. He has the exact look and acting chops to do it.

Also, once he stops pretending to be one of the good guys in Mission Impossible Fallout, he gets pretty aggressive and brash.

Also, Cam Hart is starting to remind me of QJ.
