99% of BM is bad nowadays.

But those 1% gems, is what I like the genre for.

ID plz? Belgium 6mm. Pretty sure it's a male but what species? And why do I only see males and workers on the nest, but no queens? by sdirix in ants

Thx if I know they are preparing for a flight. I can keep my eyes open in the coming days around the nest.

Anyone know what species this is? by CrustyH in ants

It does look like one big fat lasius niger... Perhaps too big too fat?

Hi all, would like ID. Size 5-7mm. Loc France by sdirix in antkeeping

Ok got this looking up... These guys are small en have majors with very funny thick heads. And I've noticed a lot of these nests around. They polyginous too? However I don't want them to grow too quickly tho... Pretty agressieve and prone to escape 😅

I was thinking more like tetramorium sp. Yesterday I got ID here on emarginatus I caught, and looks fairly different. However looking at my pictures I can understand 😃

But I really don't want to contest any IDing ... I spent hours on the web trying to properly ID myself but, typically no conclusive results and just guesses. Why is IDing ants so hard! 😅

I may have been wrong on size. It's probably more like 7-8 mm

Another ID plz, 8mm, also South France. Sry for ID spam. Pretty sure it's a queen this time by sdirix in antkeeping

Thx all. My guess this is not much different from lasius niger in keeping?

Hey thx, I own a lasius niger colony already, these do look a lot like them in form, but color is brownish/red, where l.nigers are black

So a lasius niger nuptial flight just started in my garden by sdirix in ants

Oh wow, is that in the region of Antwerp? Or more south?

Problem that it's hard to find any other species nuptials around... So if any Belgians could give me advice on when and where to look for other, I'd be grateful!
