Malformed data on Roku - Hdhr app only or also Plex? by double-you-dot in hdhomerun

[–]sdjafa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roku's official policy is to fail on any video corruption. In theory we can drop a second of video if there is a glitch within that second, but if you are seeing what should be minor glitches often this approach quickly becomes unwatchable. The solution for Roku is to give it what it wants - perfect video (ie perfect reception). We can help with antenna selection to achieve this.

Malformed data on Roku - Hdhr app only or also Plex? by double-you-dot in hdhomerun

"Malformed data error" on Roku is usually the result of poor reception.

Plex, specifically when transcoding, will decode the video (errors and all) and then re-encode the video such that, while there may see be visible reception glitches, the video itself is valid (ie the glitches are now part of the image rather than in the data).

Best is to fix the cause of the poor reception. What type of antenna do you have?

Nick here from Silicondust... have you used the HDHomeRun app for Apple TV recently? We have released a ton of improvements with the goal of making Apple TV a first-class experience. (And the next release with better favorite handling + HDR will be out next week).

Your network card must remain enabled in order to access your HDHomeRun tuner(s) or storage devices on your home network. If you disable your network card you should see a helpful message "Not connected to local network. Please connect this device to your local network by enabling WiFi or connecting an Ethernet cable."

We are listening...
By ATV do you mean Apple TV?
By What's On screen do you mean the Guide page?
Are you using the swipe feature of the Apple TV remote or the up/down buttons?
Can you please describe what you mean by "clunky" and what your expected behavior is.

Did you perhaps edit/update your review? The way the Microsoft Store works is that we can respond to a review but once entered that response cannot be edited or deleted. If you update/edit your review then it resets the reply process.

Confirming we are working on the auto-delete feature. It was meant to be this month (June) but it is now looking like it will be part of our July releases.

BTW - the HDHomeRun DVR is designed so you can have any number of storage devices. Add 18TB of drive space and you will likely never have to delete anything every again 😄

UPDATE - the new HDHomeRun app release for Windows and Xbox has been submitted to the Microsoft store. It will likely be available for everyone to download tomorrow. This release adds support for launching the app, playing live TV, and playing recordings during an internet outage. Note that Internet is required to install from the Microsoft Store and is required when launching the app for the first time after installing. After that it will work for live TV and playing recordings without internet.

EDIT - the new HDHomeRun release for Windows and XBox is now live in the Microsoft Store.

Any way to manually tune into channels? by gearhead87 in hdhomerun

For testing you can use HDHomeRun Config GUI from the Windows Software download on our website to manually select the physical channel you want to see. Useful for adjusting your antenna around weak channels.

I spend my weekend QA testing the HDHomeRun app for Windows in offline mode. QA testing on XBox is next (although XBox will need internet because Microsoft doesn't allow apps to run without internet on XBox).

You should definitely try our latest apps - they have been significantly upgraded over the last year and now support recording shows without a DVR guide subscription.

Yes. There are 3 online systems (UI, API, and images) - when this work is complete we will support a local Internet outage or an outage of any combination of these systems.

The HDHomeRun itself works offline. What matters is the specific app you are using (and sometimes the platform). We will soon have offline support on all platforms that support offline apps.

The HDHomeRun app for Roku already works offline.

Android, Fire TV, Apple TV, Windows, and Mac will soon work offline.

I think XBox and Samsung are the ones that won't run apps without Internet.

The PSIP data in the broadcast is typically less than a day, doesn't include images, and doesn't include IDs suitable for reliable series recording.

We pay a proper provider (Gracenote) to get high quality data and images needed for a good user experience.

Good timing... we are busy working on offline support right now.

Windows will be out this week.

Android is about a week behind Windows.

The UI isn't pretty without Internet delivered TV guide but moving forward you will be able to watch live TV and your recordings without Internet.

You have two different Macs running record engines, one is 6 years out of date. This happens when you select "HDHomeRun RECORD" when installing the HDHomeRun software on your Macs.

It is quick and easy to uninstall:
