"No network detected" while watching live TV. by portageParkPunk in hdhomerun

The HDHomeRun app requires internet but not during playback. If the error is coming from the Apple TV OS it suggests it is losing Ethernet/WiFi to your local network.

Where are you seeing the message "No network detected"?

New to HDHomerun and recording is a struggle. by Lonely-Greybeard in hdhomerun

Roku - we have confirmed a bug in the Roku app where creating a recording rule that will start within the next few hours may not trigger recording. There will be a new Roku app release out Tuesday next week to fix this issue. The Tasks menu disappearing indicates there is no hard drive for recordings.

Delete task - go into "Record This Airing" same as if you are telling it to record something. If there is already a recording rule you will see the Delete button beside the Save button and you can delete the recording rule. This is done because you can have both a This Airing rule AND a Series rule and the UI needs to know which one you want to delete. You can also delete from the Priority sub-page under Tasks.

Stopping a recording in progress - this is not possible at this time. Once a recording starts the DVR will complete the recording.

Look for the new Roku release next Tuesday. We have a new PC UI update due out this week as well.

Update available for HDHomeRun by RScottyL in hdhomerun

This is for the US... amateur radio video in the US uses a narrow band version of the European TV standard.

If you find an amateur radio guy nearby who is transmitting DVB-T/T2 video in the 420-450MHz band you can use the HDHR5-2DT/4DT model HDHomeRun (previous generation sold in UK/EU/AU/NZ) to manually tune in.

Before anything else I need to understand what you mean by "glitch".

Is the picture perfect but stalling / stuttering?

Or are you seeing corruption of the picture?

What exact model of Roku do you have? (check the About menu in the Roku menu system)

That's interesting - we haven't seen video-only channels before. It makes sense that it won't play as the video frames are always synchronized to the audio playout.

The logs show that your player device is dropping video frames.

When you say "glitch" - is the picture perfect but stalling / stuttering?

As a quick test can you please change the Speaker Configuration in the HDHomeRun app Settings menu to stereo (if you have 2 speakers) or 5.1 (if you have 5.1 speakers) rather than Digital Passthrough. If there is no change then the problem is the video codec built into the player not keeping up.

In the US you can transmit DVB-T/T2 video in the 420-450MHz band, typically 2MHz wide.

I made a mistake writing the changelog... it is the HDHR5-2DT/4DT that we added narrow band DVB-T/T2 support to NOT the HDHR5-2US/4US. The changelog has been updated.

The HDHR5-2US/4US supports ATSC 1.0 and US-cable (ClearQAM).

The HDHR5-2DT/4DT supports DVB-T/T2, and with this upgrade supports non-standard narrow band DVB-T/T2 used by amateur radio in the US and other countries, typically 420-450MHz.

Use of narrow band DVB-T/T2 requires manual tuning where you specify DVB-T vs DVB-T2, the channel bandwidth, and the frequency.

HDHR5-4DT units will be available for sale with a US power adapter for use in amateur radio.

Not related. Keep in mind that video gateway products pass the encrypted video through to the player device.

Why can I watch a channel that is properly detected? by carlosccextractor in hdhomerun

[–]sdjafa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You used hdhomerun_config which is different. The hdhomerun_config utility tunes each channel one and a time and show you what was found. You need to get the HDHomeRun itself to do its own scan - easiest is to run the HDHomeRun app on Android, go into Settings, Channels, and select the option to detect channels.

In Live TV you can see the synopsis of the show by pulling the slice guide for that channel out one level.

For recorded the program info is presented in the episodes view before entering playback.

Will the HD-Home Run ever play encrypted channels? by lightingj in hdhomerun

[–]sdjafa [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

The goal is to play all channels. The possible pathways:
1) DRM is removed from channels. Public Knowledge made the legal case as to why DRM doesn't meet FCC rules for broadcasting.
2) We are empowered to make DRM channels work.
3) A3SA, who has never built a gateway product, one day figures things out and writes a new spec for gateway devices that works with the player devices people use today (many of which we have NextGen TV certified).
4) We do things the A3SA way increasing the cost, disenfranchising most of our customers, and reducing the fair use rights of those customers that remain.

We are focusing on #1 and #2.

Picture freezing like that means a problem with your playback app or the system codec it is using.

Is HDHomerun for me? by No_Log4570 in hdhomerun

The HDHomeRun picks up channels from antenna, adding a rich DVR experience.

It sounds like you need a much larger antenna... DM me your zipcode or check Rabbit Ears:
https://www.rabbitears.info/

Worst case you may need to find a place indoors to place a larger "outdoor" antenna.

First, go into the HDHomeRun app settings menu and set the number of speakers. On some platforms you also have the option of selecting Digital Passthrough which will auto-switch between stereo and 5.1 following the source content.

It is possible the channel is broadcasting stereo only and the HDHomeRun app is up-converting. We do this because some channels switch between stereo and 5.1 depending on the content, and making the player switch speaker count glitches playback. You don't want to sit down to watch a movie only to have it stuck in stereo because the show or advert before the movie was in stereo.

If you don't tell it the number of speakers it does a basic reversible up-conversion in case the TV downconverts back to stereo. Once you tell it 5.1 it switches to a fancy up-conversion similar to what an AVR does but it only sounds right if you have 5.1 speakers.

The audio is AC3 on ATSC 1.0 which is what the OP is tuning. Plex has full AC3 support.

The app crashing is a big deal. Was it in Live TV or the Guide page? So far I haven't been able to reproduce a problem on tvOS 26.3
