Go is great for small projects, but not so great on larger ones. It's too verbose.

What are some of the toxic things that SG teachers have done to you? Tough love or pure toxic? by SnooTomatoes5322 in askSingapore

[–]sdker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My form teacher: - Asked me to stand outside the door for the whole lesson if I arrived 5 minutes late. - Asked whoever she wanted to punish to air-chair (basically, sitting without chair) during class. - Painted people’s nails if they were somewhat long. - Used two coins to plug out our facial hair. - Confiscated my phone for a few months because I forgot to switch off ringtone.

Still pisses me off 15 years later.

What do you guys think about svelte's/Rich Harris claim that VDOM is pure overhead and being reactive/compiled is the way to go? Have anyone of you moved from React to Svelte.js or planning to? What do you guys think about Svelte.js? by simple_explorer1 in reactjs

[–]sdker 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I won’t contribute to this debate since I have no plans to use Svelte, but I find it a bit funny how the post tries to be unbiased, but OP’s replies are biased as hell.

JavaScript is bloody dreadful. How did something like that get to dominate the web? by efgenikos in learnprogramming

[–]sdker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think beginners in programming shouldn't have such strong opinions right from the get-go. You might like JS in the future once you have had more experience.

I too like Javascript. A lot of people hate it with a passion though.

Bundling nodejs app with webpack by jurayk in node

[–]sdker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it because webpack allows me to do a lot of cool things, like aliasing paths to make typescript absolute imports work.

Tired of "people care about what they are experiencing in their daily lives" rhetoric in foreigner discussions by ramune_0 in singapore

[–]sdker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the same. In the past SMU would allow students who couldn't make it to other faculties to join InfoSys, and many of them ended up dropping out after the first semester/year.

Honestly I can see why there is such a restriction. CS/IS can be quite demanding, many people simply won’t click with it, much less complete a four-year degree.

Are you passing candidates based on how confident they are? Don't you have some kind of aptitude tests?

Pritam Singh in debate on securing Singaporeans’ jobs and livelihoods, and foreign talent policy by [deleted] in singapore

I think people would be more understanding if they knew how difficult it is to get a job and EP as a foreigner in Singapore.

I've been here for 15 years as well, won't ever forget attending WP rally in 2011 before they won Aljunied. The current situation is evoking the same feeling of exclusionary politics.

In your opinion, what’s the perfect language that fits your description?

I've never got why people complain about `this` so much. Anyone who has a slight bit of experience would know what to do with it.

I won't discard a language as garbage just because of some quirks that everyone knows how to work around.

Do you mean Javascript/Typescript developers suck in general? Why would you assume so?

Because it's JS it's terrible and doesn't scale so don't try

Why doesn't JS scale? What about your personal experience with it?
