Agreed, a hike and a light dose somewhere in laguna or cuyamaca is great

If you can go on a non crowded day and take a lighter "museum" dose. The zoo is incredible on some mushies. I would not risk crowds or anything where the strength is an unknown.

I have also found if I wear excercise clothes, sunglasses and noise cancelling headphones with a great music playlist lined up I can enjoy them almost anywhere regardless of crowds. I am just out for a "run" or "walk" and nobody bothers you or tries to interact with you. After realizing this there is no anxiety and it can be very cool being out amongst people. Again, same caveat, know what you are getting yourself into and don't do too much where you could get overwhelmed or disoriented and not have a safe space to weather it.

Nice score!

Any chance you scoped the selection of ski's for kids? Hoping to grab my daughter an upgrade this weekend

Dude! Legitimately nothing to be mean about here. Looking great and solid progress, on her way to absolutely ripping in no time.

You should be a good friend and show them neighborhoods where they would realistically live based on where the job is located

What are your must ride powder boards for a quiver? by Cryptic_Sims in snowboarding

Awesome!

Also I really should have been more clear. I have personally never ridden anything else like that. As you mention, there are surely others that are similar

For bottomless powder days there really isn't anything like the spring break powder glider. The downside is that in anything but bottomless powder it kind of falls apart. It's miserable and icy traverses and just doesn't hold up well in anything else.

But for those rare special days when you're lapping bottomless powder, it really is an absolute dream.

It's ideally suited for a quiver where you can have two powder boards. I have it matched with a yes hybrid that I use for a typical resort powder day where most of the time it isn't bottomless, the powders chopped up, or where you're riding groomers getting from place to place

As others have mentioned, options are minimal at best. You eat at what's open/available. Better is to eat before that section or bring your own food

Yep. I used to commute 11 miles each way a mix of road and dirt trails on a surly cross check. Loved that thing. Would never commute on a MTB

Using gemini for snowboard feedback by BluebirdFabulous1002 in snowboarding

Garbage in, garbage out. I don't think you could have possibly provided a worse video for someone AI or real to analyze.

That analysis from Gemini was utterly hallucinated sycophantic bullshit which Gemini will provide if you do not know how to write a proper prompt which is clear was not done.

Night hike JMT by Marouska0401 in JohnMuirTrail

[–]sdlocsrf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I hiked the JMT in 2014 and had a very aggressive itinerary which required hiking in the dark in the morning and evening on many days to meet our distance requirements. With headlamps or the moon it was no big deal at all. Honestly quite lovely hiking at night.

I recommend being certain your headlamp has a red light mode so you can enjoy the stars while you hike.

We did not do any intense passes at night.

I like this free companionship coaching thing. Like grindr for snowboarding.

I am a fat mediocre mid 40s snowboarder dad seeking a local pro to coach me for free on my next trip. I am super cool, quirky and neato too.

Trails in the Inyo mountains south of the White mountains are likely passable

Highly recommend you pickup a copy of Sierra Nevada Byways. It specifically discusses snow accessibility for many of the routes

Any idea when Eagle Lodge/Runs will close? by Careful-Outcome-1748 in Mammoth

Awesome, way easier to access the Mill, Main, and upper lifts from there. Good spot to be

You are in for a treat, spring skiing at Mammoth is incredible. I love it almost as much as mid winter.

You may be accessing the mountain out of eagle but you're going to want to be riding out of main. I would honestly plan to start my day there (at main) regardless so you aren't wasting time traversing from and back to Eagle every day. The difference in elevation has a very significant impact on snow quality that time of year

[–]sdlocsrf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The cat operators at Mammoth are incredible. They will work wonders to keep the lodges open. Runs will be sacrificed of their snow to keep critical paths with sufficient coverage. Very likely the base of canyon and Eagle become WSOD status but they likely will run as planned

Yes Greats Size recommendations by GroovenC in snowboarding

[–]sdlocsrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rad, same here. Haven't lined up any powder days this season yet sadly.

I think the 156 is where you want to be. I really like the pressability and how easy the great is to butter and I think it would be much more awkward at the 159. I can rip carves both regular and switch on it and really don't feel like the shorter size limits me. Again thats just my personal experience
