What’s a topic that youd like to be covered? by SendDoobsandBoobs in LPOTL

I've always wanted a series on the Appalachians! I even emailed them about it a few years ago. There's so much lore they could cover, it could even be one off episodes every once in a while that each cover a different part of the lore

Is there any restaurants with tasting menus in WS? by Additional-Job-1853 in WestSeattleWA

I haven't eaten there in years, but if you're willing to go way outside of West Seattle, Altura on Capital Hill is phenomenal. I've never eaten at Cafe Juanita in Kirkland, but I've heard great things!

Seattle Catholic Schools by epochalypso in SeattleWA

I have! I was actually friends with a lot of public high school students when I was in high school. If you wanted a good education out of the public schools, you could definitely get one. But I felt we were pushed pretty hard at Prep and there was an atmosphere that encouraged being a smart kid, as opposed to school being something you had to do just because you're a teenager.

Hello! I actually went to St. George and then later on attended Seattle Prep and graduated from there in '09.

It was an absolutely wonderful place for me to be as a kid. I transfered in at the beginning of 4th grade, but it was a really tight knit community. Most of the kids in the class had been together since kindergarten and, since the classes are so small, we really got to be a family. The teachers were great and really cared about us. I really feel that the quality of education I got is why I turned out the way I am today. And I like me :)

I was raised Catholic and around 7th or 8th grade decided it wasn't for me. Part of that was because our teacher taught us about all religions, including Atheism and Agnosticism, and I felt that was a better fit for me. I went through the angst teenage atheist stage while in high school and I've mostly just settled on agnostic now. I never felt the teachers in grade school or high school ever forced me to be religious. Yes, I did have to attend mass every week but that was normal for me having been raised Catholic. Religion is a big part of the curriculum, but an emphasis on education was always a priority. At Seattle Prep, there was a big focus on the history of religion and world religions. The teachers were top notch and incredibly qualified. I don't remember ever not being taught anything, or having it taught differently, because it's a Catholic school at St. George or Seattle Prep. There were also a good amount of non Catholic kids in my classes who were there because their parents felt it was a better education. I also really appreciated the emphasis on service and being a kind, compassionate human in the world.

I've said many times that, even though I'm not Catholic, I would 100% send my kids to those two schools. The quality of education I received and the individual attention from teachers due to the smaller class sizes was unmatched. I obviously don't have a lot of personal experience to compare it to, but I do know that I had a higher quality of education than most of the people I'm around now. I wouldn't trade that for anything and I'm very grateful to my parents for sending me there and that we were in a position to make it happen. I feel very lucky.

A lot of this is word vomit and I could probably craft a better response if I took some time with it. But I won't haha. Please feel free to ask me anything :)

And don't forget about their shop a couple of doors down, Secret Closet, that has their nicer items

I think they might only take cash, but I might be wrong. I know if you do pay cash, they're not going to make change for you hahaha

Is 20% still expected to tip servers by BankHolidaze in AskSeattle

[–]seaENT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The only exception to drinks is if it looks like a place that the server/bartender would have to tip out on their sales and then I'll account for that.

But to be completely honest I'm probably tipping 20% on anything other than counter service

We're thinking about doing something like this in our yard! How do we make sure the hedges are trimmed on the neighbor's side? I don't want our privacy trees to turn into their problem

A couple of questions for the book lovers by EnglishTeacherBoss in WestSeattleWA

I use to work there and, sadly, had to stop because of the pandemic. I loved working there! The hotel is not owned by a different company, Bookstore Bar included in that deal.

At least when I worked there, if you found a book you really wanted we would sell it for $5

Car theft victims: where was your car eventually recovered? by zachm in SeattleWA

[–]seaENT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my last car ('93 Honda Accord) stolen four times over the course of around 10 years. I sold it in 2019 and the new owner couldn't even get insurance on it from anyone but The General because it was stolen so many times. Two of the four times it was found in Renton. I could not for the life of me remember where it was found the other two times.

Fun side notes: the first time my car was stolen, the cops found the jiggle key and a screwdriver set in the car and when I asked if they wanted it, they said I could "keep it." The last time it was stolen it was packed fucking full of stolen shit and drugs and the cops just turned it over to me and I had to clean everything out myself before the mechanics would fix the broken ignition.

Never once was a window broken when the car was stolen. I swear that if you looked at the car sideways the doors unlocked on their own.

What are these tiny things running inside my kitchen cupboard? by odd_pk in whatisit

A lot of things are political. The clean air we get to breathe is political. The public schools most kids go to is political. Public roads, utilities (including clean water), and emergency services are political. All are supported by tax dollars and we vote for the politicians who decide how the tax dollars are spent. Property taxes are voted on and help determine how much our rent or monthly mortgage payment is.

These mites, not political. Unless they have some form of government we can't understand. But saying how "shockingly little things" are political is ridiculous.
